Buying my first 1995 4Runner

hi there I am buying a 95 4Runner SR5 2wd with 141,000 miles from a Co-worker of mine, but I have noticed a couple of issues with the steering gear box on the passenger side and a real bad oil leak coming from between the engine and trans.. are these common issues? easy to fix? also where can I buy that gear box

Steering gear box on the passenger side? Are you talking about the idler arm? Any parts store will have one.

Oil between the motor and trans could be as simple as a leaky valve cover and a 1/2hr fix, and it could be a bad rear main, which is a decent size job. No way to find out without getting in there and finding out.

I just wasnt sure what to call it my friend said it was the Rack and pinion leaking..when ever I went to go look at it i did notice somthing leaking that was bolted to the driver side frame that was also hooked up to some steering parts..

You're contradicting yourself, is it on the passenger side or the driver's side? Your steering box is on the driver's side. The idler arm is on the passengers side.

Are you sure it's the steering box leaking, and not the power steering pump above it?

meant to say its on the passenger side not driver side.. I will be meeting the guy today and I'll takes some pictures of it to post

3VZE trucks are weird.

Your second pic has the idler arm in the lower foreground. That's not what's leaking though, there's nothing in the idler to leak really. I'm not familiar with the 3.0 engine bay, but it looks like that's the power steering pump above it with all that crud on it? That's probably what's leaking.

Your right Kid. The idler arm is almost directly below the power steering pump. If he has power steering fluid and not ATF in there is could be a major part of the problem (as always, I had to experience such a mistake to know this).

lol you guys are too funny.

that thing thats leaking is the ABS pump/unit. most people take it out but dont ask me how, i dont know.

your other leak between engine and trans is the rear main seal. i would do the trans input shaft seal as well

Finally someone with a real answer.. I appreciate the help sir and hope to get this great vehicle in the road again..
