We have two 2003 V8s and a 2004 V6. We got them with 100k, 125k and 145k. All three are 4wd. We haven't had any engine or tranny issues. We have had two transfer case o-ring leaks. Luckily White Shepherd seems to have fixed them, keep those fingers crossed. We have had a CV Boot to fix and lower ball joint. We have also changed out a few window seals, two rear window seals and one front passenger seals. We have also had some phantom lights come on the dash from the vsc and lo 4wd. Both were cleared by disconnecting the battery. One kept coming back. Changed out the battery and no new issues. Other than than that just basic maintenance issues. These are very solid trucks. I would buy another in a heartbeat. Mileage difference between the V8s and the V6 is almost negligible. Both engines are pretty peppy. I would opt for a V8, all things being equal. LIghts for the AC controls and the center dash tend to go out over time, easy diy fix. The base radios aren't to good, an inexpensive fix is using a Scion 1808, 1809 or T1819. We have a couple of the 1808, got them for around $30, add a $10 ipod cord and all is good, much better sound without changing out the speakers. We paid $10200 for the 2003 V8 three years ago, $9200 for the 2003 V6 18 months ago and just picked up another 2003 V8 for $4500, I spent another $1000 doing a repaint, probably could have lived with it but it now looks like brand new, maybe better, I changed out the hood for a sports edition model with the scoop, also put on some FJ Cruiser wheels. Nobody seems to notice but me. Good luck, we have all So Cal trucks, no rust, just some issues from dry heat......Phil
