buying 4runner with high mileage ?

I bought my 04 Limited V8 with 113000 miles 6 months ago from the original owner and paid $13800 for it. She took wonderful care of the truck and took it to the dealer for any and everything. All regular maintenance was done on time and I even got the records from the dealer. The truck runs like a dream and is as strong now as it was when new. Before I put my snow tires on I got 20 MPG average. It took some time to find one that was taken care of so well, but it was very much worth the time and effort. Good luck!:flamethrwoer2:

High mileage is still high mileage even though Toyota hold up better.
I've never had a toyota before so that is why I am here asking.
It depends on the owner and what made the mileage that high.
If the owner is someone who changed the fluids and oil at the right time, making sure they used the good stuff, I'd be less worried. If the mileage was because of highway miles, again less of a concern.
A car driving down the highway generally requires little more than tires and an oil change. A car used as a daily driver in a place like SF (traffic, hills) and/or towing would worry me more.
But high mileage is high mileage. If for nothing less than peace of mind, shop around and find that price/mileage point with which you're comfortable.

thanks-I called one the used car lots/brokers in town and his daughter has exactly what we are looking for- Black 4WD leather and she is graduating and may be getting a new car .He also said it is very hard to find an older one with 4WD but he will call around and look when he heads to auction.

depending on which motor (V6 vs. V8), the V8's timing belt has to be replaced every 90k (or 100k). Its a relatively big job in that it NEEDS to be done. V6 doesn't require this. Its (V8) an interferance motor if that means anything to you. Thats about it. Both engines are extremely reliable. V8 models has AWD, V6 models don't. Anyway, I got mine (V6) with 72k on the clock, have 82k now, 0 problems. I did a ton a reseach before I plopped down $20K for her, properly maintained, these trucks last 250-300k without breaking a sweat! good luck, you will love the 4Runner!

Here is my .02 on it. I bought an 06 V6 back in June with 84K on the odometer. Since then I have put almost 30K on it myself in the 6 months I have owned it. When I was looking, maintanance records were the one thing that I wanted to see. I came across this one that on the Car Fax and it showed that this vehicle had been taken to a dealer every 5000 miles for service. Now it did not specify what all was done, I was pretty confident that if the owner was that vigilante for PM service he did everything that was required. So far I have not had any issues whatsoever and IMHO, this has been the best purchase I have ever made in regards to vehicles.

For clarification, the V8 and V6 have identical 4WD systems. The 4WD V6 has the ability to be in 2WD. The V8 has permanent full time 4WD. The V6 in 4H is no different than a V8.

They are NOT identical. One shifts in and out of 4wd and the other doesn't. The V6 model will get 19-22mpg and the V8 won't. The V6 in 4H is not supposed to be driven over 62mph.

broscience - not true at all. Cannot be shifted into 4hi above 62, once in 4hi you can go as fast as you want

Surprisingly, the V8 typically gets only about 2-3 MPG less than the V6. I tow with my V6 and it's very capable but if I had to do it over, I'd have the V8 solely for the extra torque for towing.

In fall of 2014 I bought an 07 SR5 V8 with clean carfax (never wrecked), all maint records incl lifes oil changes, never used in towing, had 94k on clock for 13,700. Book was over 18k on both KBB / NADA. Took me a couple months to locate what I wanted but I found it. Expected an 04-05 in my price range and got lucky as an 05 was sold out from under us in town. All fairness dealers brother bought it, blood is thicker.
My 07 4Runner is mint inside/out and drives like new so he's forgiven. I had to drive 100mi to St. Louis to get it as the real deals are in bigger cities due to more cars sold. In my town Toyotas sell for at least 2k over book and why zip codes do matter. I'll do timing belt myself soon,done trans fluid,tune up exc........Needed nothing but 100k service and we're looking forward to many miles together. :dance:
