Buying a used 4runner next week not sure which year to get

Depends on what options you want.
If it were me, I'd get a '99 - 2000.
But, I'm partial to the 3rd gen.

Between those 3 years if I had the dough and choice of any options I would choose in the following order:
1. 2009 Trail Edition. Among 4runner 4x4 enthusiasts this is pretty much cream-of-the-crop.
2. 2008-09 Urban Runner. Has the look of the sport edition but had the option of the Blizzard Pearl paint and 18" limited wheels. Unique seat covers and a different navi/stereo in the dash.
3. 2007-09 Sport Edition. The sport edition in these years look great. Not sure if I would get the V8 or V6. I don't mind my V6 that I have now so I guess I would have to drive the 2 to decide.
4. 2007-09 Limited. Leather. Power, heated seats. Color keyed handles, grill, and rear hatch trim. Ditto on the V8 vs. V6. I think I would skip on the rear airbag suspension though.
5. 2007-09 SR5. After all, it still is a 4runner. Just about anything the above mentioned 4runners have you can still do to these. I really enjoy my SR5.
No matter what, the key is finding one that is well takin' care of and in your budget.

I drove a then-new leased 2005 SR5 for three years. Loved it; except for the gas mileage. The 4.0L V6 was strong, quiet and did not seem to have to work very hard to get the truck up to speed.
The '03 to '05 had the cool bumpers with the extra blank tail lamp lenses (no idea as to why), but the 2006 to 2009 models had a "cleaner" look to them.
Can't go wrong with any of them if the price is right.

I would love to get the trail edition - but I am not sure if I really need the 4x4 - albeit - it's pretty sweet!

I ride a dirt bike, but I don't go "off roading" -and would just need to tow a small utility trailer with 3 dirt bikes on it.
I'm also a professional organizer - so I haul a lot of my clients stuff - and am on the road a lot! (so I am not sure if the 4x4 will be bad on mileage ya know!)
Would the 4x2 be okay for this?
Also - any suggestions where to buy? I am have hook-up at Kearny Mesa Toyota - but they would have to research and find the one I want.

I don't know the different in purchase price, but resale of a 4x4 will be higher and probably easier to sell.
I don't think gas mileage will be much different but not sure on a 5th gen. My 3rd gen 4x4 gets near 24mpg if I lock cruise on about 60, that can't be much worse if any than a 2wd.

I have a 2007 Ltd Ed V6, and it's as good as it gets IMHO. Driven it to Florida and out east and it was great on the highway - bit of a gas guzzler in town but on the highway at 100 - 110 Kph (60-70mph) with the cruise on I find it rather impressive for a big vehicle especially packed with luggage. Don't know about off road but in the snow you can turn the 4 wheel mode on (up to 60mph I think) while your moving and no change or noise. Only great traction.
Seats could be a bit comfier and there's a few other points but it's a great ride. My two cents.

i am officially a 4runner owenr YEAH!!!!!!
so I finally bought my 4runner a gorgeous 2008 dark gret aport edition....I've had it about 4 days and LOVING it!
Already purchased all-weather mats - can't wait for them to come in the mail
I will upload a pic soon.
I have a couple fo questions as a new runner owner:
how the heck do I turn on the fog lights hahha
and how the heck to i turn on hte read wiper hahah
also,,,i am a looking for a tough looking brush gauard possible with extra lights as well i am looking for rear light guards...
Any suggetions>
