buying a used 4runner

Hello! long time reader frist time poster here. I am looking to buy a 4runner but cant seem to wrap my mind around paying ~18-20k for a car that has 100K miles on it. I would like to think for that price that I can expect to drive it for the next 10 plus years. I am apprehensive about shelling out that kind of money without the peace of mind that i will be able to drive it that long. What is the expected life of a 4runner given proper and preventative maintenance?

18-20k sounds a /bit/ expensive unless it's a very recent model with unsusally high milage for it's age.

BUT at 100k you should actually get anbother 100k with very little expected to go wrong (There is always unfortuante surprise of course).

In fact a large number of people get to 300k with out more than a top end rebuild and wheel bearings, that sort of thing.

Longevity and general problem free ownership is pretty much the reason that 4runners and Tacos do cost a far bit more than a lot of other trucks of the same age...

Thanks Warthog, 18-20 was a rough estimate on what i have found,but thought it was a bit high. I have been looking at 07-08 4runners, and they seem to have higer mileage in the price range that would fit my budget. I knew they lasted a while but wasnt quite sure. what would be a good price for an 07 with ~100k on it?

We bought our 2008 4wd SR5 V6 a couple years agp fpr 16,500. It had 100k and all service documents. The only problem I have had is chasing a leak on the drivers side floor. It drives like new and... it's a Toyota. The are strong, reliable and 100k is nothing. Good luck and whittle down that price. I have done research and very few failure issues of concern. We road tripped from Oregon to Colorado and back with no worries.

Not sure if I got ripped off or not. I just bought a 2006 V8 AWD with 60k on the clock for $20,000 from a dealer. It came with a one month warrany, new tires, new brakes, and all new fluids.

Well 60 k is damn low miles!

Not sure if I got ripped off or not. I just bought a 2006 V8 AWD with 60k on the clock for $20,000 from a dealer. It came with a one month warrany, new tires, new brakes, and all new fluids.

I just got an 08 with 80k miles 3 days ago not far from you (Pompano Beach) got it for $19,100 out the door.

I found that Toyota dealerships are less likely to be talked down on their used runners due to the fact that people are coming in there to buy a Toyota. I got mine from a BMW dealer, it was surrounded by used BMW's, Audi's, etc... the salesman even told me not many people are coming there to look at a Toyota SUV. It had been on their lot for 2 weeks, dealers don't keep cars for much longer than that before they auction them so I think they were ready to sell it. Congrats on the 60k miles though! I'm hoping this thing lasts me another 200k

i bought my 03 v8 4x4 sr5 with 56k miles for $10.5k, All fluids flushed at 30k, all new brakes, band new tires etc, 1 owner.
