Buying my first 4runner

I just joined the forum and i'm in the market for a 4runner (i've been lookin around on here for a while and honestly i love it). I've always wanted a 4runner and i've finally got the funds to buy one. I've been lookin for a late 2nd gen to early 3rd gen thats in nice condition for a good price. I have a car so i've really been able to scour around for one that really looks like its been taken good care of. The tough part is i'm only 17 so i've only really been able to look in my immediate area. The other day i found one that looks like it could be a good candidate. It's a 97 sr5 4x4 with new bfg all terrains and an alpine, and it really looks in good condition, the only problem being it has 200k on it. the seller is asking 4798 for it.

Here's the link to the seller's web page with pictures: 1997 Toyota 4Runner

any thoughts and/or suggestions for my search?

Hows the engine look? lots of interior pics look great, but how about the drive etc. maintenance records, when was the timing belt, suspension done etc,

im hoping to go check it out this weekend and see how everything under the hood is.

i guess my main question is (although i know 4runners are known for sometimes goin to 300k miles) is buying one with 200k miles on it worth it?

yeah, thats super nice!

got to look at the lift on that one!

edit: what happened to the ebay listing??

Whats up!

Ive been looking at these for months now and I spotted this the other day on Autotrader and just a heads up I actually bought that 4runner today. I live in Ohio and Im having it shipped this weekend.

That thing was way to nice to pass up it was little more than I wanted to pay but the carfax is clean it has new rotors and pads on the front, it has a nice headunit, remote start and what almost appears to be a close to a new set of bfg at ko's on it!

Im crossing my fingers that it runs well the salesman ive been talking to keeps raving about it (then again what else is he going to say)

I'll let you know whats it like when it gets to my house lord knows I need it because the snow is coming again and my MazdaSpeed3 cant handle a sprinkle of snow!!!

Edit: Change of plans as I was up late tonight I looked at airfare again and for some reason the price went from $250 to $80 on a one way flight looks I will be the shipper friday morning!! I cant wait to pick this up!

Looks like you found a nice one.

Based on the interior and exterior pics, it looks to be in great condition. As long as the maintenance records look fine I think that the price is pretty good. 200k isn't bad for a 4Runner, so I wouldn't worry about that number alone.

looks like my search is back to the start. i hope it treats you well. post pics and stuff once you get it.

honestly i was planning on taking out the remote start if i got it..i dont wanna feel like im driving a lexus or somethin

Being in Ohio I like having remote start im sure you have your cold days here and there in VA but today its was 15 degrees this morning plus more snow is on the way later this week.

I will post some pics when I get home with it I plan on putting a clarion nav unit in it and tinting the front windows so if anyone wants a good deal on the Alpine head unit let me know. It's still $200 new.

Whoa! People buy cars without inspecting them in person?! Good Luck with that!

People buy cars all the time off ebay or fly into a used car lot and purchase a car or truck. Now I did as much research as I could do being 500miles away it has a clean carfax and autocheck it's had some service done to it etc... But in the end I will still test drive it look over it if etc... and it's a pile of junk then I guess I will buy another ticket back to ohio worst case im out a few hundred dollars which would suck but a car that is that clean i cant imagine it being a heap of crap.
