buying new k&n fipk, quick question

so I'm just about to buy myself an intake (not gonna do deckplate or anything ghetto.. my parents gave me some graduation money :D) and I noticed something interesting on eBay

searching 57-9012

there are multiple listings of this intake, most at $275

however there is one for $237, seller has 93.9% positive feedback.

I'm down to save $40 haha. you think it's legit?

I would really suggest doing the deckplate mod instead. It'll give you the same if not better results than a intake will and it's A LOT cheaper. Prolly run you about 30-40total. Plus it's completely reversible by simply putting the cover over the deckplate. The ISR mod would be a good thing to do while your at it. If you really want to do an intake then it's your call. You should be fine with the seller you mentioned. Ppl's feedback aren't always perfect, sometimes they get screwed up because of something stupid. I'd go for it, if I was thinking about buying from them.

thanks man, I appreciate the feedback. I guess I am confident a little more now, I will be placing my order tomorrow and make comparison vids, the whole shabang for those lesser noticed 3RZ fellas lol.

If your going to spend money, why not get something that will give you better sound and clean up your bay a little. There's no way that the deckplate mod would give the same gains as an open filter with a heat shield and the deckplate mod won't give you the same awesome roar. I'm all about free stuff but if you have to do the isr and deckplate to get the same performance, why not spend a little more and get the sound with the clean bay?

Again, I am going to disagree. I've read these type of threads for the last 10+years on numerous 4R forums. If you like the look and associated (10x) cost then so be it, to each his own, but dont say there is no way the DP combined with a simple Amsoil oiled foam hi flow air filter isnt going to give the same hp increase (actualy it gives better proven gains) and "roar" . If you are so sure, then post your research/proof.
 
The HP gains of the deckplate are dyno proven as are the K&N's and maybe the "roar" is a bit louder with the K&N but a couple hundred bucks is alot to pay for the sound.

Spending 13 years at the dragstrip I've found most intake sytems and CAIs are quite overated and aren't really a big part of the equation in making HP on a naturally aspirated motor.
 
Having read quite a few thread and seen dyno sheets to proven it the Dp mod does yield the same results if not better. Coupled with the ISR mod the roar is about the same. Plus your not really saving much more space if you have a heat shield around the open filter. The Intake kits do look more bling though. To the OP, like I mentioned before it's your call but there are cheap kits out there that will yield the same thing. Even the cheapo e-bay kits fit pretty well and accomplish the same thing for a 1/3 of the k&n kit. Just saying why waste the money on a big name brand kit when you could use the extra cash u save for another mod. Maybe the skid plate you mention in another thread!
 
screw the deck plate and K&N go with Volant or AFE they are the same price as the K&N and you get a cool box to put the intake filter in. this will keep hot air from entering the intake. and yes it just looks awesome!! and when you open your hood you actually have something to brag about (if your that kind a person) Nobody can see a round piece for a boat in your engine when you tell them "deckplate" maybe if you slap a sticker on there that says deckplate or something, then you would be cool. haha I think an intake is good buy! :rocker: but than again if your pinching pennies, you dont care about the intake and you want to be able to switch it back to stock than the deck plate will be good for you! other than that rock on yall :rocker:
 
sorry, im not trying to hate on k&n or deckplate do what ya wanna do its just that the deckplate mod gets brought up in every intake thread. i just like to give my 2cents. and yes the volant dry filter is cool. the air only can enter from the front right where that hole is for all that yummy cold air your engine loves.

I personally think so. it looks a million times better than the stock airbox, and it sounds great. even though the cheap mods can do a good amount of improvement, I like form and function.

plus, I can always sell my airbox and stuff, if it had a 4 inch hole in it, it'd be worthless.

l got some sound clips earlier but they're not too great. I'll get new ones today.
