Buzzing under hood on driver side....

So I have noticed that when my 96 runner is parked and not running there is a short little buzz under the hood on the driver side...it isnt a constant buzzing but more in intervals...the runner can be sitting for hours after running and it still does this...it appears to be coming from a black box in front of the clutch fluid resevoir....does anyone know what this is or if it is normal? Im so use to older toyotas that Im not that familiar with my newer one yet...

Had the same thing happen in my 96 Taco. I don't recall the exact reason but search some Tacoma forums. It is pretty common to happen on them. I took it to the dealership and to my mechanic, both said don't worry about it, it is not a problem. It's the release of air or something like that. Nothing to be concerned with. Mine did it for about 4 years, sounded like a bee was stuck under the hood. Kind of funny to show friends, especially when I hadn't driven the car for a long time it would still do it.

Yeah its really normal, and nothing to worry about. I actually enjoyed it because it would always freak people out.

It is normal and as far as I know the part to fix it is no longer available. Sucks too cause I hate that sound....gets annoying having to explain what it is to my friends.

Evap canister.....mine moos too. I'm pretty sure cj80cruiser is right, the fix is discontinued- at least, I couldn't find one.

Yeah, it's normal. My '97 did it too. It's just gas vapors being released from the charcoal canister and it's nothing to worry about. I bought the little black box that silences the noise for ~$25 and it worked, but like cj80cruiser said, it's been discontinued now. Jaques at TRDparts4u.com found me one after they were disco'd but, I think others have asked him since I got mine and he couldn't get any more if I recall correctly.
