Ill have to check out Swype... I was also gonna get Tapatalk for Android so I can view T4R better on the mobile
as far as 2.2 or Froyo, check out this link, apparently its available now, at least a "leaked" version is out.

Yeah, but i hear that it is buggy. I will wait for the official release. In addition, unlike your phone, my phone is CDMA...so, my Froyo update will be AFTER you guys.
So, trust me, i am in for a longer wait than you! The sad part is that 2.3 (Gingerbread) was just released this week...so, by the time that we get Froyo, the newer phones are already on 2.3. :cry2:But, there is good news in all this. Google next-gen phone, Nexus S, is a Galaxy S phone, with the same hardware as yours and mine. Apparently, Google is now going to use Galaxy S hardware with Hummingbird processor for future development. In the past, Google has been using Snapdragon processors (in HTC phones for example). So, this may explain some delay in our phone getting the current updates because Samsung has to take 2.2 that was made for Snapdragon and modify it to run on the Hummingbird processor. With Google going over to the Samsung platform, we should be getting future updates (after 2.3) quicker since Google is using our exact phone for development. But, as always, my updates will be behind you guys due to me being on Sprint (CDMA).

Thats awesome info! even more glad to hear I picked a good piece of hardware to match the rock solid android software! I was a little worried cuz I had done all my research on the Droid X, Nexus One, Incredible etc and then when I went in to ATT yesterday to get my mom a phone, and the guy sold me on the Samsung... I didnt really know much about the hardware, just the software.
You may not get the updates as fast, but you probably wont have "More dropped calls in More places" like I will on Att! :biggrin2:
Yeah, Im gonna spend most of my free time at work today reading up on rooting and rom flashing the phone.
I had a completely Jailbroken Iphone and had put together my own custom set of Icons etc. I want to see whats available and out there and if theres anything worth rooting and flashing this thing for.
I know I want to delete some of the ATT bloatware that they put on this thing. I did that with my Blackberry Curve years and years ago and they are still putting junk on these phones... frickin ATT

You have no idea how good your phone is! Our hardware is ahead of EVERYONE else...our graphics processor is top-notch (class leading of course), our Hummingbird is class-leading (actually, Iphone4 uses a modified, slightly slower, but better battery life processor!), screen (SAMOLED) is the wave of the future, and even our Bluetooth version is 3.0 while everyone else is 2.0. Basically, Samsung made this phone to be a class leader, not just for now, but for next year or two even! PLEASE DO NOT BUY A SCREEN PROTECTOR. Your screen is made by Gorilla glass...google it! Our SAMOLED screen will be what the next gen of LED TVs will be based on. It is currently too expensive and still in beta for bigger screens. Although Samsung did make the colors a bit too expressive (oversaturated), this can easily be fixed in future updates...again, this screen tech is still in infancy, but it is the next generation of TVs.
This is why Google has jumped on the Samsung bandwagon...they know what is the future....

Same questionover here. I been debating over the Epic VS the Evo it is time to upgrade my Samsung Moment. Y really love the graphics of the EVO but I really like something with an actual keyboard for fast and accurate typing. Thats why I went with the moment instead of the HTC Hero last year. Besides the MOment its way faster than the HEro. I do like the Galaxy S but I am with sprint since 2001 and I get good deals with them.

For me, the Epic hardware is just too good to pass up. The EVO, currently, has better software because it has FROYO already, while Epic owners are still waiting for the update. So, right now, EVO is a faster unit...due to the better software.
However, the Epic with 2.1 (Eclair) is the fastest 2.1 Android phone right now, even faster than EVO when it had 2.1. This likely means that, after the Froyo (2.2) update, the Epic will be the fastest Android phone on the market, with maybe the exception of the upcoming Nexus S.
In other words, the Epic will be better than EVO in almost everyway after it gets the Froyo update. The EVO hardware is good, but you can't compare it to what the Epic has inside it.
The slideout keyboard is very nice too. I use it all the time, but i also type short messages with Swype. I believe that the EVO has a better front-facing camera (for video conferencing), but the camera itself (for pictures) is better on the Epic.
In conclusion, if you want a top performer right now, then i would get EVO. If you don't mind waiting a month or so, then Epic is the better choice IMO. Also, it is nice not to need a screen protector....

Same here. I don't think I'll ever leave Sprint, been with them since 1998. I've dealt with the lack of coverage back in its hey day and now I get better coverage in many places when leaves my AT&T friends envious.
I stopped by Costco to shop VZW and AT&T, the rep said, "I can't match or come close to what you have. Stay with with Sprint." I pay $120ish after taxes for a four line 800 min family plan, with unlimited n/w, m2m, unlimited data on two and text msg on three. But I know if I go Droid, Sprint will hustle me into their current plans.
BTW, I also enjoy the stigma that most relate Sprint=sucks. It gives me leverage when my contract is up and time to renew. Sprint works great for me and they are no different than anyone else since I don't need to talk them.

Thanks Thai. I prefer to have a hardware keyboard myself as well... thus I have the Touch Pro 2 now.
Looking to go Droid next. The new Windows phone has peaked my interest, but the lack of software support has me leaning heavily towards Droid. Unless the new Windows Mobile can integrate seamlessly with Media Center, the decision should still be easy.

Though most apps that I've wanted, I found available on the Droid platform. Windows Mobile had its run and it's fallen to the way side just like Palm OS and Web OS.

I have been with Sprint since 2000...works the best with me. I also have an ancient plan that is unmatched by anything nowadays...but this old plan does not support data. Recently, my work place gave me $2k to spend on phone...so, I went all out and got the Epic + Simply Everything ($99) + insurance ($7). My old plan is now with my wife. My old plan was free incoming 300 for $40. Basically, you can receive calls from anywhere unlimited any time + 300 anytime min + night starting at 6pm. Thus, my phone became my pager also...good for people (aka my workplace) calling me (instead of having to page me) and no penalty on me. This is why I also had to get Simply Everything on the new phone.

I got a 3 line (2) Android phones Samsung Moment and HTC Hero and (1) Blackberry with 1500 minutes + data share for $129.00 + $19.00 on the third line + taxes and I also get a 25% discount.. can't beat that.
Still debating between the Epic and the new Evo Shift . Really liking the Epic better with the bigger and brighter screen and better qwerty keyboard as well ... but the Evo Shift has the 2.2 for android which makes it faster.

Everything Data Family plan is still a good value compared to the competition, but the problem is I don't even use all my minutes now, since just about all my calls are in-network calling. The additional lines will cost $20/month vs. $10 that I'm paying now and if I get a 4G phone, it's another $10/month. The problem for me is I don't need data and text on all my lines, let alone unlimited. It would be great, if Sprint allowed the additional lines for $10 just for voice and $20 with text and data like VZW does. The all or nothing approach doesn't work out for me.
I'll be forced to switch to that plan when I upgrade to an Android phone. I have an old legacy plan and I think the Touch Pro 2 is the newest smart phone that can go with the plan. My current plan is 800 minutes, unlimited N&W at 7pm and mobile to mobile, 500 text for three lines, unlimited data for two lines. I have four lines total and it's $100 before 23% corp discount and fees. With the Everything plan, I'm looking at $170-190/month depending on how many 4G phones I get.
Sprint is changing things for the worst though. After 1/31/2011, there will be an additional $10/month charge for any smart phone. Any smart phone activated before that is grandfathered in and the $10 charge won't hit until you do an ESN swap or change to a smart phone. Also, corp discount doesn't apply to the additional lines anymore, only the base plan.
