I noticed in this pic is that a vertical lock on the latch when its closed? Did they eliminate that feature? Cuz mine dint have that

That was the first way we designed the latch on the bumper. We only built two like that and changed it. Using the large hitch pin was inconvenient and just didn't look that great.

The can carrier has been updated, the cage style with the metal cover isn't used anymore.

Anyway to get the older dual jerry can cage with the metal carrier?

Why change the design? Was it an aesthetic design change? Form/Function design change?

My rear dual swing out has an approx completion date of May 16... looking forward to receiving it!

Hi, thanks for your order!
We changed the design because the old one was heavy, it only fit one style of jerry cans, and it rattled on occasion.
We resolved all of those issues with the new design and we no longer offer the old style.

What type of lock do you recommend for the jerry cans? I am still weary of the new design and theft.

We recommend just using some type of cable lock, like a shorter bicycle lock basically. There is a hole provided at the top of the carrier between the cans where you can loop a cable lock through the carrier and through the handles on your cans to lock them into the carrier.

Dual Swingout Options...

Received my bumper yesterday and dropped it off to be painted!

Silly question about the setup... with the Dual Swingout bumper using the Jerry Can holder option, is the only setup option to place the Spare tire mount on the passenger side with the Jerry Can’s mount on the driver side? Or can this be flipped with the spare tire mount installed on the driver side Swingout and the Jerry can holder mounted on the passenger side Swingout?

With the dual swing setup you will have to run the spare on the passenger side. Technically you could bolt the carrier to the driver side, but you wouldn't be able to access the upper gate latch with the tire on that side.

Does your under tail light piece slightly contact the bottom part of your tail light? Mine touches just right under the tail light.

Ha, comtn4x4 and i are twins! (again) We both got hosed by Pelfrey too!

Installed my C4 a few days ago. I echo that Caleb and team were great. I had some fitment issues and a slightly bent pass swing arm from shipping..fairly minor. They can't figure out the fitment issues without seeing it of course, but i did some re-mounting and got it better. Not perfect but workable. I may have a friend re-weld the pass swing arm and add a gusset near the hinge. Right now I believe it to be my frame, not the bumper....and a minor re-weld may be able to compensate for an uneven frame. When I say uneven, its got to be like an 1/8" off...not huge but its making the latch of the swing arm miss the center of the catch by about a 1/4".

All in all I still love it. Its got some very well thought out bracing and support pieces. This is my third after market rear bumper, and 6th install of a rear bumper on a 5th gen...and none have as many supports as C4's!!

I plan on some testing at Johnson Valley for KOH. Then maybe another high speed trip to Baja. Thanks again C4!

Last night I was installing my rotopax using their mount. If I used the nicely provided pre-drilled holes a 3 gallon rotopax does not fit as the can contacts the high-lift mount on the upper support and jack when it is in place.

I was able to take off the backing plate and massage a few of the square holes enough for the rest of the rotopax mount to fit. I am leaving for a 3-day trip today and will see how everything holds up without the backing plate.

It may be worthwhile to add a note that 3 gallon can won't fit (when mounted like top center pic on your website). Or move the holes about 3/4" outboard.

Of the rear bumpers I’ve seen, the C4 is my fave to date. The installation video on YouTube leaves me wanting more! By more, I mean, one in my own vehicle. [emoji16]

FWIW, when C4 announced the dual swing, I was sold, but once I saved up enough, I began to really weigh the options. I eventually pulled the trigger for the single swing-out for these main reasons: 1) cost, 2) less moving parts, and 3) bigger camp table.

Mine won't arrive until early November, but I'll let you know if I still believe I made the right decision haha.

Would you mind sharing how you got the bike rack to work with it and if you had any clearance issues? I have a OneUp bike rack that I want to put on and was wondering if I need a hitch extension or if I need to weld a receiver to the swingout arm.

C4 put a 2" receiver on my single swing for my bike rack. Monster clearance. I was doing trail maintenance out on a really rugged private ranch today with my bike on back going up and down some decent ledges without issue. It's the last thing I worry about.
