C4 Fabrication Rock Sliders Group Buy

Thanks for the pictures. It looks like the pallet could have fit in too?

Or, I will have to find a set of bolt-cutters from Harbor Freight for the one time I will need them.

Congratulations! Don't forget to show us when you have them mounted too!
You won't need bolt cutters. The metal strapping can be cut with tin snips or even with side cutters (although it may take a bit more effort!). I would imagine if you had them shipped to a freight dock, someone would be properly outfitted to assist.
Good luck with them. Hopefully I'll get mine in the next week too.

Got a call today and was able to pick up my C4 Fab Rock Sliders. As you can see, once we removed it from the pallet, it fit perfectly in the back of my 4Runner. More pictures to come.

Nice! thanks for posting pics, its exciting to see everyone starting to receive their products!

I don't recall how yours were packaged, but some of the first ones we did were attached to the pallet with 1/4" lag screws. You may need a 7/16 wrench or socket to remove the screws. Otherwise tin snips will do the job.

Thanks for the picture @Ohio_rock, was just about to ask if it'll fit in the 4Runner. I can't wait to get mine soon!

Do these shipping places like to keep the pallets to reuse them or are we suppose to dispose of them ourselves?

Thanks for the information on the socket wrench.

I don't believe that mine have shipped yet since I was on the tail end (#20 on the list) of the group buy .

Unless you think they have shipped already and I have something to look forward to sooner than the end of July lol!

I do believe it would have fit with the pallet but I decided to remove it anyways.

Unrelated to packaging: is there any guidance on assembly? I got the passenger side bolted on, but I'm having a tough time with the drivers side; specifically, I'm not sure how to get the KDSS lines out of the way. Should I unbolt the pump assembly too? Do I just wedge the plate of the slider between the frame & the hose? Etc.

Ok, a bit of reading and I'm most of the way there... A post by mo_mo here helped a ton: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/187258-what-sliders-can-you-run-kdss.html#post1906644

The only remaining question I think I have is what to do with the forward KDSS skid that attaches to the crossmember; I'm assuming I should just leave it off based on the geometry of things?

Let me know if you remove it, I had this question as well. [emoji1303]

I basically followed the stuff I found in the thread above and was mostly successful --- it was a really good guide, even without pictures. I was bashful about loosening the top rear/aft bolt on the KDSS assembly, but ended up loosening it a bit more to allow the plate of the slider to fit. I also didn't drop the whole fuel tank skid, just the 4ish bolts on the drivers side; this gave me enough clearance to get the slider in place.

There was a bolt hole or two on either side that I just couldn't get the sliders to line up with. Lots of loosening, trying to jiggle the slider, swearing, etc. :)

For the forward KDSS skid, I ended up bending out the larger tab that goes into the cross member (the smaller one that notches in to the rear fit just fine) but both bolts seated well; I got tired of saying magic incantations trying to get the stupid tab to fit and declared defeat  ...that said, I'm not super worried about it and I may end up cutting the tab off --- I AM slightly worried about clearance between the rear of the driver side slider and the KDSS lines, they clear but not by much. I plan on just keeping an eye on things for a week or two and adjusting as needed.

What's eveyone's opinion on using anti-seize vs. loctite?

Also, here's a picture of the contents out of the packaging.

I have thought about the same question. After each off-roading trip I have removed all of the skid plates with the exception of the gas tank one in order to power-wash underneath.

I have been using copper, anti-seize on the bolts for the skid plates when putting them back on. Mostly because they will get wet, salted, muddy and bashed by rocks. My thinking is that this will help the bolt come out when I have to remove the plates again and I don't want to shear a bolt in any of those locations.

I did not do heavy research on this though so I am curious as to what the educated thoughts are about it as well.

beautiful looking sliders! I don't think I will be getting mine in until the end of July. But unless otherwise informed that I am doing the wrong thing, I will put anti-seize on the bolts for the sliders as well.

Yours are built and they will be sent to powder coat next week. Hopefully by the end of next week we will be shipping a few sets out.

Sorry we have not even had the opportunity to get a KDSS equipped model into the shop to create complete install instructions for that side. Yes you need to loosen all of the KDSS pump brackets and line brackets as much as possible so the slider frame plate can slide up between the frame and the KDSS parts. As for the original KDSS skid plate that covers the lines, it should bolt right back into its original location. Just bend the tab flat and it will work fine that way.

The skid will bolt right back into its original location. Just flatten the tab with a couple taps of a hammer.

I found the Install Instructions for the C4 Rock Sliders that @C4_Fabrication posted back in Feb 2016: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/c4-fabrication/214225-install-instructions-c4-fab-rock-sliders.html#post2263180.

Are there any changes that I should be aware of?

What's eveyone's opinion on using anti-seize vs. loctite?

There really arent any changes except for the plates that now wrap around the bottom of the frame. Those extra plates are pretty self explanatory, they just bolt into the frame where the existing holes are. You will need to use a 5/16" drill bit to drill the two holes on the passenger side forward cross member plate. Then you can thread the two 3/8" thread cutting screws into the frame. There are pics of this a few pages back that I posted a couple weeks ago. I would not recommend using loc-tite on the bolts that thread into the frame. Clean the holes out first before installation and use a very small amount of anti-seize. Once the bolts are tightened down they should never come lose.

I basically followed the stuff I found in the thread above and was mostly successful --- it was a really good guide, even without pictures. There may be a couple bolt holes that just dont line up sometimes, but it shouldnt be a problem. That is why we use so many of the threaded holes in the frame for mounting, that way if one or two just dont sit right, you will have plenty of others to hold it in place. The KDSS sliders are no doubt the hardest to install since so much wiggling and positioning is involved to work around the components. The lines are a close fit to the slider parts, but there should be no worries. Since everything is solid mounted to the frame, there will be very minimal movement or vibration that could cause any problems with the KDSS lines.

I have thought about the same question. After each off-roading trip I have removed all of the skid plates with the exception of the gas tank one in order to power-wash underneath.

I agree on using the anti-seize, thats what i would recommend for the install also.

Awesome! glad everything showed up in good shape!

I am going to use...

For those of you who go bare steel, what are you using to paint your sliders?

LineX type material. I am going to have a shop do it, at the same time I am going to get my SSO Bumper, my Trail rear bumper cap and my Bushwacker flares done the same. Black, hope it pops on my MGM TE!

that will look great and also add some extra grip to the step plates as well!

Spent a couple of hours this afternoon installing. Thanks to a little help from my wife, I got them done. They look great but that's just my opinion. My wife also approves and says that now it is way easier to get in.

Thanks to @C4_Fabrication.

I spent a couple hours today with a friend and installed the sliders and gas tank skid. They are very well made and beefy! Thanks again @c4_fabrication

Can anyone tell me how far they extend out at both the front and back doors? I'm unsure if my small kids will be able to use them as steps to easily get in. Thanks
