Cabin air filter in 3rd gens?

Couldn't we just have like a similar type material as a furnace filter with a high merv rating or mpr then somehow fit them by the air vents (at least the 4 up front)?

I know the middle 2 are pretty easily accessible so it's replaceable. Idk maybe I'm overthinking this too much.


Side note: I've been trying to get better air quality at least in my room and instead of buying the expensive air purifiers, was able to put together a $20 box fan with 2 of the highest mpr rating I could find (2800) and some duct tape. Got the idea from this reddit post

I’m glad third gen didn’t come with cabin air filters. Just another thing to maintain.

This is the one I believe attaches without much issue to the red of the 3rd Gen. There's also a switch made for these you can put in the dash. New they retail for about $200 and are very effective filter systems.

Do you have part numbers for any (hopefully all) of these?

There was a gent a while back that posted a detailed how to add cabin filter but this crude version is the same basic idea. Simple enough to do in just a few minutes. Its for a taco but 3rd gems share the same unit.

I used this thread to add a cut-to-fit house filter element in my 3g. It helps cut down a fair amount of dust inside the cabin

I also rember years back someone on this forum did something right at the blower motor inside. He did it when he was taking the blower motor out to clean it and added the filter or screen or something. Would be a pain to replace as you would have to pull the bower motor each time. Had pictures etc. YOu might find it in a search under cleaning blower motor or something like that. The blower motors can get full of junk from little creatures or pine needles making them sound like you need a new motor.

Sorry to disappoint yet 3rd gens were simply not designed with a cabin filter. That isn't to say one could not be retrofitted. A guy on here a while back had some custom made for sale - I'll PM him to see if he's still in the biz and post back here if he responds.

That video shows how to access the cabin air fan and fit a custom filter. But the custom filters are no longer available (from Russian manufacturing operations that are under export embargo).

There's a fella on FB selling a flat-panel type filter that fits too. I have one.

not to be that guy, but I would be a little weary about this, seems like self-promotion, which is totally fine, but as a potential consumer I would much prefer more information than just "it's now available"

User has one post (this), is from Hayward (presumably CA), the website is also registered in CA, which can always be a coincidence, just seems a little fishy to me with no other information provided, especially given how the last "popular" cabin air filter shenanigans went.
