cabin air filter

Looking to see how to replace a cabin air filter on a 2007 4runner 4.0l sport 4x4?
Is it as easy as dropping the glove box and just removing it.

Yep. Drop the glovebox, open the lid, pull out. Slip new one in, close lid, flip glove box back into position.

My only complaint is that you have to actually remove a screw to do this, and that's a wear item that technically is going to have to be replaced eventually if you keep taking it out and screwing it back in. They should have used some sort of hook or snap feature instead of a threaded screw hole.

in later years i know on Scions/Camry they incorporated a hook style for the glove box "shock".

Not really. I've only taken the screw out twice. Once was the first time I changed the cabin filter and the second time was when I realized the small "glove box shock absorber" had somehow had become free.

To change the filter, you do NOT have to remove it (the screw), just open the glove box, empty its contents, take both of your index fingers toward the rear of the rear of the box, place them OUTSIDE (on the sides) and push inwards to unsecure the pins. Do NOT worry about wearing the plastic out. The glove box plastic is robust. Anyway, the glove box will then fall (but not completely) downwards. You will notice you will have full acess to the HVAC filter box. This doesn't take 5 seconds to go. It takes another 10 seconds to take old filter out and put new one in. When closing up, don't forget to attach the small shock absorber back on.

Buy a quality home furnace/HVAC filter from Lowes and cut it to size using the old one as a template. You can get 3-4 cabin filters out of one HVAC filter and its a better filter.

I wasn't a fan of this on my 03, luckily the later models like my 08 they did away with this and it's just clips
