CAI = idle drop?

i just installed a TRD CAI on my '04 T4R V6. I went for a spin right after and noticed when i stopped at a light, that the rpm was down around 400. Usually it's around 600 rpm.
Also, because the revs were so low the engine was running very rough and shaking. Did this happen to anyone else after installing a cold air intake?

by my understanding, the idle speed and the new air/fuel ratio mapping will change as you drive a bit more, i'll say maybe 50 plus miles?
cuz the ECU is still running your stock intake box setup mapping, now you run the CAI but it takes time for the ECU to re-learn your new device and re map the curve... correct me if i am wrong.

i didnt notice a problem, but yeah, you should just relax as im sure your ecu is re-learning whats going on.

Perhaps you should have disconnected the battery
ground during the install for a fresh reboot.
Let the system learn the add on.

I just finished my True Flow Intake install myself...noticed a few things too:

First off, Yes I did disconnect the negative on the battery as directed by the instructions manual.

After my install I did a quick drive around the neighborhood and went and got some gas...

Noticed after filling up my tank the indicated miles left in my tank were alot lower then before ....not sure why...but instead of the usual 380 or so I only read as 310. Not sure why but that was weird.


The ECU is definitely relearning. My estimated MPG on dash readout are increasing everyday. It use to be 17.5 with the stock air intake....but currently its only at 15.4 and it goes up and down quite a bit so I can tell it hasn't stabilized yet, hopefully I hit 18 or even 18.5 in my estimated indicator.

All in all, yes there are some weird anomalies that occur but the ECU will need to relearn.

Thanks for the responses. The idle did go up little bit to 500 rpm now. I have a long drive this weekend so i hope that will help reset the electronics.

I did find another problem though. The auto up/down feature on the driver side window doesn't work anymore. The switch still works, but it's just not auto anymore. You don't realize how conveniant that switch is until you lose it.

You must re cycle the back window all the way down then up (keep window button depressed). The window will return to normal operation. Works the driver side auot down as well.
