I live in the Bay Area and it's about 5.5 hours from here(San Jose). So fom Sac probably only 4 or so. Terrain is all forest trails. Has river crossing some hill climbs. It gets up to 7600ft. There's one section that is said to be more difficult, it's for "high clearance vehicles" ill post up a pic of the trail map to show you.

What month did you head up there? I've been thinking about that with the snow and not going to early but California isn't having much of a winter so far.. So hopefully June will be good

We were the first on the trail that year. In addition to deep snow drifts and soggy trails, we ran into several down trees blocking the trail. Check with the rangers before you go, and bring a shovel and a chainsaw.
From what I've been checking even up north isn't getting much. Mt Shasta resort isn't even open it sais so hopefully it will be fine in June but we still have 6 months to see! Even though we need rain and snow badly
No I was planning on starting at the California end, and loop around where the red more difficult trail is. But I'm open to suggestions!
