why? you dont like to have a little fun, i didnt get a chance to read anything about this specific case but if he was fooling around with a buddy on the highway with no one around i dont really see that as grounds to destroy him and his vehicle.

The cops will crush cars involovled in illegal street racing when they are caught racing. It does not matte if the bank owns it or not, just like when they confiscate cars during drug busts. I do know a few of the departments will retrofit the confiscated cars with lights and sirens and us them as unmarked UC vehicles. This works because a lot of the better cars might have a reputation and all they have to drive them around and people will try to race without looking who is inside.
It is really stupid to destroy something that took resources (materials, time, money) to build just to prove a point to some jackass doing 100mph pulls on the interstate. Just take the car, strip all the parts off, and sell them keeping the money for the department. Or, as Pikeman said, keep them for the department. Crushing them is stupid and wasteful, especially when the car is worth about $30k minimum.

I'm guessing they can't sell it because the only people that will buy a car impounded for street racing is other street racers.
I wonder if they could put it to use in a program for track cars for disadvantaged youth, or something.

I was literally eating at the dennys on the corner and saw the whole thing. Second car took off and came back twice but left before police got there. It was bad. Two guys had to pull on door just to get guy out on street. Tragic.

and yes, very tragic. morons deserve to pay. i cant stand people that drive impaired, let alone drink and race. innocent lives are taken for no reason.

Ha me and my gf have a system. I'm dd one week and she's dd the next. That was my dd weekend so I got to choose where we eat after. I'll remember to shoot you a text next time we go out. And yeah I'm glad they caught that guy. Cops didn't even try and look for him that night. They didn't believe we saw another car.
