California Emission 4Runner Question

I have a 95 3.0 California emission model that I am finishing up, like the other post from a couple of weeks ago, I'm dealing with the exhaust. He was looking for a way to get a new bung installed on the intermediate pipe behind the cat. I'm at that same stage myself, I also should mention that I live in NC and am not subject to California emissions. Question is how would the Cali model operate without the downstream O2 sensor installed?, my state doesn't require it, and If I can save myself a few bucks... Would it throw a code or run poorly?

The ECM is going to be looking for info from both O2 sensors, so yes, I would expect not having one would present a problem.

Permanent check engine light.
Possible safe mode.

Swap out your evidence as well. May have to change a couple pins in the connector.

Not sure what "swap out your evidence as well" means.

Was hoping someone would tell me what I wanted to hear, you would be fine
w/o the rear O2 sensor. Baahhhh, never easy.

Thanks

Hello-
I was in the same boat as you - CA vehicle now in Ohio. I suggest that you just bite the bullet and get everything replaced as it is supposed to be for the vehicle. I was trying to figure out how to beat the system but gave up as it would cost just as much to bypass all of it.

I ended up having the dealer do my entire exhaust which comes with lifetime warranty - parts AND labor - which is good for me as i go through a lot of exhaust systems due to the road salt.

Probably not the advice you wanted but it is what it is...

YMMV

You will be "fine" but your truck will run in a safe state and you will get worse MPG and an annoying ALWAYS on check engine light.

Your engine/ecu/ is designed for Cali emissions. You can at least rest easy knowing your truck beat even federal emiisons standards for the time and a little more earth friendly!
