California smog question!

So i currently live in VT with the possibility of moving to California. I am looking at a 2004 4runner sport 4.0. This car is obviously not a California edition so am i going to have trouble getting it smogged if i were to move there?

I believe that starting in 01 or 02 all vehicles became 50 state compliant and that there was no longer a Federal version and a CA version. I do know that before they would charge you a one time $350 fee to bring a Non-CA car into the state and register it.

you'll have no problems assuming is passes the smog check. Its really easy to get out of state vehicles into CA (ive done 2 in the past 3 years) a 97 integra and 2006 4runner. Get it smog checked at any of the thousands of places that do it in CA (just about every gas station) before you go to the DMV. They require it on all vehicles no matter how new it is if its coming from out of state. also make an appointment for the DMV its way easier than having to wait. you can do it all online.

I had two 2001 Jeeps, a Wrangler and a Grand Cherokee. I bought the Wrangler in TN and the Grand Cherokee in MO. I lived in CA from 2001 - 2006. Both past the CA smog testing.

Assuming you have no problems with check engine lights then you should have no issue passing smog. If you do then I believe you have something like a 10 year/100,000 mi emission control warranty from Toyota that you can lean on.
