Caliper bolt torque

Hello everyone,

New guy on the forum. I have a 2011 4Runner Trail. Looking for the torque specs on the four bolts that hold the two halfs of the front brake caliper together. There are two bigger and two littler bolts per caliper and I need specs for both sets of bolts.

Thoughts?

I have read through that several times and I did not see the torque specs for the bolts that hold the two halves of the front brake calipers together.

I do see the specs for the front brake caliper mounting bolts, which are different that the four bolts I am looking for the torque spec for.

Did I miss something (even after reading through it four times)?

You're not missing it in that post. Are you rebuilding the calipers? I know what bolts you're talking about, but I can't find the spec in my manuals. I may be missing some sections.

As mentioned, these are the specs for where the caliper mounts, not the four bolts that hold the two halves of the front caliper together.

Yea, I went to the dealership today. They had nothing. Talked to the head mechanic for both the Toyota and Lexus sides and they repeated the search with no joy.

Their final comment was "don't take the caliper apart", to which I said that's long past. "Well, just make sure they are tight".

It's a bit surprising that the spec for these are not available.

There is no torque specification listed as Toyota does not consider the caliper body a serviceable part. I remember the same discussion taking place years ago in the 80 series forum on IH8MUD and no one could find a specification there either. You'll just have to guess, but in this case I'd err on the high side!

So I did the same face palm move as Joe tonight. I've done lots of brake jobs but all on American cars and trucks, this is my first Toyota. On american cars there are usually 2 glide pins that must be undone to get the caliper off. Then there are 2 caliper frame bolts.

At first glance I took off the 2 bolts in the caliper before realizing there was another set and thinking, "somethings different here". Luckily I stopped before taking the other 2 off.

So I find myself here looking for a torque for those 2 bolts and getting a little frustrated at those posting values for the frame mounting bolts and the little guilt trips "you should search harder" comments. I mean thanks for taking the time to try and respond but the answer to the question was missed.

In the photo below I'm pointing to the 2 caliper bolts on top, leave those alone. The frame mount bolt is to the left, that one is 91 ft-lbs. These 3 are then mirrored on the bottom.

Hopefully this helps someone down the road. For now, I'm just going to try 70ft-lbs, as caliper bolts are usually less that frame mount bolts.
