Caliper painting

So I have gotten my 231 tundra brakes, and I noticed that they are slightly different shades of grey (one grey, one silver). I can't really tell if it is paint, or if they are clear coated or what, so I am curious, should I scuff and paint them before putting them on, or are they coated when they are re-man'd and I should leave them alone?

i would paint them a color of your choice because i didnt do it to mine and 2 months later they are completly rusted and need to be taken off and sanded and painted.

WOW, what kind did you get?

Nelson - I went with the remans from NAPA and they came with a nice painted finish to them. I had originally planned on scuffing and painting (even bought the paint) but decided to leave them as is. I would say leave them unless you'd prefer them to be a different color.

If they are OEM, I'd just leave them alone. Anything else, I'd be reaching for the Duplicolor.

+1 here. Mine came from Advance Auto Parts and are now a nice burnt orange color. But I can stop on a dime, so there's that.

I vote paint, mainly for aesthetics. Mine are red...

edit: just looked through your build because I couldn't remember what wheels you had. The five stars might not show the calipers to much, hard to tell from pics. I couldn't help but notice your drums are red though, so I'm sticking with my vote for paint--and might suggest red

The answer is YES. As to what color - the answer to that is BLACK to hide them in the shadows, but that is my opinion. Colored calipers belong on BBKs - OEM should always be black, esp. if you have aftermarket wheels. On previous vehicles, I have used flat black grill paint in the rattle can purchased from home depot or lowes or wherever. No need to spend the extra coin on duplicolor, however if you do, buy the kit with the sponge or brush to make application easier. As is always the case with paint - PREPARATION IS VITAL.

remans from oreillys auto parts tundra 231mm upgrade. ill be taking them off sunday to sand and repaint.

yeah, mine werent that bad until the recent flood storm we had in houston and i went swimming in the truck lol then the next day the were burn orange rust too. but i can stop real nice and fast too. lol.

I got the fenco re-man's from Advance. If I am going to paint them, it will be either red or black, unless someone else has a great idea that can sway me some way else.

My biggest concern is rust protection. I got these because my stockers are so rusted that I can't loosen the bleeder valves to bleed the brakes.
