Calling All Build Threads

Many of you have requested we update the existing stickied threads with current information. In addition to a "Welcome New Owner" thread the current build thread sticky needs some updating too.

With that said I will update the build thread sticky. The new build thread "library" will be classified by Year, Model and Color. Anyone can include your build to this library. You of course will still be able to modify it and it will still be "your" thread. It will just be listed in a sticky of builds for easy access.

If You want to include your build thread in the new build thread sticky, this is what I need in this format:

Year
Model
Color
Link to your build thread.

Here is an example:
2013
SR5
Magnetic Grey Metallic
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/202588-adventures-4rnr-grl-build.html

That's all. Nothing else. So if you want your build represented in the updated build library then simply submit the information in the proper format in this thread. I will leave it open for a week or so and then announce a deadline. If you don't submit it then it won't be included.

Adding / Updating the list is good. Trouble is that Year, Model and Color offers no info whatsoever of what’s in the thread. Maybe consider some sort of Format Rule such as Post 1 in each build thread must include a list of Mods. Then you could create another Sticky linking to all the Build Treads that include that particular Mod.

For example, if one was looking for info on the Gobi Rack they would be taken to all the build threads that included the Gobi because they are not at all Year, Model or Color specific mods. If fact, other than a few like KDSS or a few body parts not many Mods are specific to Year, Model and Color.

Feel free to file this under: It’s much easier to suggest from the peanut gallery than actually doing it. :)

What are the possibilities of a complete 5th gen section overhaul? Like adding subforums. Once you click into the 5th gen section, you could have different areas for builds, off topic circle jerking, regional sections for trail runs/ meet n greets, different areas for suspension tech, drivetrain, electrical, etc. kind of like the fjcruiser forums. Sharing these types of sub forums with the first gen guys just doesn't make sense to me. I don't know maybe I'm alone on this.

you need to keep the 5th gen forum together. the sections you're requesting already exist on the forum a whole. if you centralize those into the 5th gen section, who will ever leave? you exclude all the other generations of vehicles and members.

You're taking an awful lot on your own, Greg. I have generally stayed away from responding to all the Gobi/TRD PRO/noob flame wars. It does amuse me that we never had "trim" battles until the Pro came out. In fact, I couldn't tell you who had what trim model back in the day and it was just all about the 4Runner. Anyway, serious props to you for taking the reins of the 5th gen.

I also appreciate the build sticky revamp. It will help the newcomers get their questions answered by those that are still somewhat active in the community. Assuming they search

There's also some "builds" in the build thread that aren't much build at all, such as http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/139718-twelve1-build-page.html

No offense to twelve1! I'm just saying, replacing grill, shocks and wheels is common.

I frequently reference the following build threads because they are rich in information, mods and how to's.. such as Antman Ducmonsta harkco and harper7

I do think it needs to be cleaned up a little.

Just my 2 pennies.

Edit - I also think it would be nice to include adventure threads in the same stickie, such as J-BlickPhoto

Exactly my point. Why are any other generations relevant? They should be segregated and then each gen sections has their own list of sub forums. I don't own any other gen than a 5th gen which is nothing like a 1st gen or even really a 4th gen. I'm not interested in sharing sub forums with them

For instance: under the 5th gen section would be a regional section broken up into north east, south east, Midwest, etc. then if I lived in Colorado, I could post up in that area that I'm running holy cross trail if anyone would like to join. Or maybe I want to sell my Baja roof rack that I'm obviously not going to ship. It's not that fun going through a sticky with someone selling a bumper in Nantucket, or tires in Tallahassee. Most of what's being sold on this forum can't really be shipped
