Calling everyone running OME 906 coils

I put the 906's in the rear along with OME's new shock (60027). Toytec calls the 60027 the only 4runner option since the ARB application guide doesn't list it as a 4runner-specific shock. However, the 906 isn't listed as a 4runner coil either so that doesn't really hold much water seeing as they sell that coil for a 4runner.

I'm wanting to get some feedback about everyone's ride with the 906's. My front end (881's and 90004 shocks) feels just right, but the rear is definitely firm. When I pull into a driveway with a slight bump it is a significant bump with this setup. TRDparts4u.com and Wheelers Offroad both list the OME 60028 shocks as a "softer" shock for the rear 4runner. Anyone running these things? Do other people with 906's think they're very firm? Is anyone running other shocks in the rear? I'm trying to determine if the 906, itself, is the problem, or if it is the shock.

I dont have the 906's, but the 890's. And yes, they are pretty stiff. I imagine the 906's are designed to carry a load just like all OME stuff just with less lift and therefore will will ride stiff as well.

In my opinion, its the springs that give the stiffer ride, not the shocks. I doubt it would make much difference between the sport and comfort shocks and if you replaced you would most likely be throwing money away.

Give it some time to break in and it may help. Throw some gear in the back of your truck too, that may help them break in faster with the added weight.

I wouldnt say its really a "problem", just the nature of the beast.

If you look in arb catalog the 60028 is recommended with the 906, not the 60027. I email toytec for an exchange or refund, we will see what happens. I was reading a thread form the expendtionwest forum that someone posted similar to this. He said he put cheap $35 gabriel shocks in and took out the ome 60027 and his ride improved dramatically. I think toytec should exchange all people who were sold the 60027. Check out toytecs website,they now give you the option and explain which shock you should buy.

Are you saying that ARB will replace the 60027 that we bought for the 60028? If so I definately want to do this. My 4runner feels ok on the big bumps but bounces up and down like crazy on normal roads.

I spoke with an Arb tech, they told me that the 60027 shock has never been recommended with the 906 coil. They are sending me the 60028 shocks for free!

I'd say the firm feeling you have has more to do with the shocks than the spring. I'm running the 890s with Rancho RS5000 and the ride feels a lot like stock.

Front, Bilstein F4-BE5-2450-HO. Rear, Bilstein F4-BE5-2451-HO. (Yellow Body and Blue Boot) They are a little short for my lift. I will be going to the 5150 when I go to 861s or GY4220s.

That is not true.

Here is ARB's application guide for the 3rd gen which was released at SEMA(November). The 60027 shocks are directly below the 906 coil and there is no mention that one cannot be used with the other.

It wasn't a distribution issue. It was a product issue, and ARB is stepping up to the plate to make things right. When all is said and done, I feel that both Toytec and ARB provided outstanding customer service. I would do business with both again.

I agree with Econhonda, ARB is doing the right thing, I think Toytec is a great company as well. I will continue to do business with the both of them. I wonder if we can get a an update in the lift sticky?

I suspect that your truck is not heavy enough to get good performance out of the springs. Send your truck to fat school, then come back and see how they work! :driving:

Actually, I thought the same thing at first, but then I removed the bottom mounts of my OME shocks in my driveway, and found that the coils are quite capable of traveling up and down with my jumping on the bumper. With the shocks fully installed, it doesn't move much at all. Therefore, I determined that the cause for the extreme firmness was shock, not coil. I do agree that the coil is stiffer than the OEM coils, but they aren't stiff enough to bounce the rear end of a 4runner across a paved road. Those with 906's, don't be fooled. It's shock, not coil.

econhonda, did you replace your shocks? Can you comment on how the ride is with the 60028 compared to the way it rode stock?
