Camburg UCAs

Thanks to all with regards to previous discussions around UCAs including pros and cons, various manufacturers and some of the particulars around each type. I read some threads that referenced the Camburg unit with Moog ball joint and the issues around replacement ball joints - should that be required at some future service interval. Specifically; Assembly - Cam 310081/Moog K50018 - where it has been remarked that Moog K50018 does not exist and that to procure the OEM ball joint from Toyota would facilitate the purchase of an entirely new OEM upper control arm just to press out the ball joint and refit to the Camburgs.

The technical and customer service folks at Wheelers informed me that the Part Number for the Moog referenced on their webpage is wrong… it should be K500018… NOT K50018. When I type the actual part number in Google or NAPA I get many returns and purchasing options…Pricing is at about $28.00 each. I was concerned about the serviceability thing as well so I thought I would chime in with this. Order is placed and I’m awaiting delivery.

Good information to know! I'm back and forth on the purchase of the camburgs...this will play a factor in that decision. Thanks for posting!
 
I know it' an old thread but I think my info fits in to this one.

After about 65K on my Camburg UCAs I decided to have them rebuilt. I've greased them regularly FYI. So I called up Camburg and ordered all the replacement pieces which includes the Moog balljoints, bushings and zirc fittings. I had my mechanic install them and provide me the old ones.

Pictures attached for reference. Mechanic said the ball joints were bindings at certain angles. Additionally as you can see the bushings are worn in the center on one side.

When you greased the bushings, did you loosen the nut on the pivot bolt? Kind of looks like you didn't but I wouldn't know.

I have the same UCA but have been thinking about switching to Uniball.

Hey [MENTION=134742]mike5[/MENTION]. I see you are in SoCal, what mechanic do you use?

Hey forum members, who has experience with replacing their Moog balljoints on Camburg? I know they are pressed and looks like with some properly sized pipe spacer things it would be pretty easy. I would love to here from anyone who has done this and know what spacers were used and any further insight. Also, would love to do this while on the vehicle as the long pivot bolt is kind of a pain to remove/install.
 
I've had Camburg Balljoint UCA for 16k miles. In those miles I've been off-roading, rock crawling, overlanding, etc. Also driven daily on corrupt streets that mimic a bombed city. After 16k I'm ready for new UCA's.

I loved the Camburgs but now it's time for something new. I am going with the JBA High Caster UCA's. Should get them in a few days via mail.

The only issue I ever had with the Camburgs was blowing out the grease/balljoint rubber sleeve's under the ball joints. I blew these up in the mogules/whoop e doos. Camburg sent me new sleeves for free. They are a great company. If you need to replace your Moog balljoints get um from Camburg, Toyota Tundra 07-19 | 4-Runner 03-20 | FJ 07-14 OEM UCA Moog Replacement Ball Joint | Camburg Engineering

They will provide instructions to press um back into ur UCA's.

The JBA's seemed to good to pass up and they are priced right. This time I'm adding 1.25" wheel spacers with the install. I'll take pics of the camburg bushings and balljoints when they are removed.

I have 35,000 miles on my Camburg UCA with only one time adding grease to the Moog ball joint. Yesterday I noticed a bit of play in the joint so I suppose I neglected them and now they will need to be replaced.

Does anyone recommend a ball joint press tool for this work? The C-clamp type tools look like what I need but looking for advice on what size is known to work with the Camburg.

I found a local machine shop to press out the out and new ones in. They did it for $40 which seemed cheap. I think you can buy a tool from harbor freight for not much more. In the end I swapped out UCAs to get more caster anyway, but the Camburgs are solid.

What was the max caster you could get with the Camburgs?

With about 2.5” of lift I was at like 2.9-3.5ish which was great. Once I replaced my coilovers and went up 1/2” I couldn’t get to 1, they had more built in just not enough. Remember every truck will be a little different. They were solid though, all the winters and off-roading and once I cleaned them up they looked great. Earlier Camburg uca were more notorious for not having enough caster built in from what I’ve read. Mine were at least 6 years old.
 
I believe my caster is just about 3.5. I don’t think my alignment shop even adjusted that as I recall the as found and as left being pretty much the same on caster. This was when I installed this early 2017 and took it in for alignment. Agree the Camburb have been very solid with zero issues.
 
I got 3.5 caster also with the Camburg balljoint UCA.

Today I had them removed and had JBA UCA installed. My passenger side balljoint had play and was making a clunky noise going over bumps. The JBA makes the front end much tighter and feels stiffer at the steering wheel. I could of just replaced the Camburg ball joint but my Camburgs seen it's last days. It was time to replace the UCA's. My Camburgs rubber bushings were in good shape cause I always sprayed them with silicone spray. My balljoints were shot. Only had 16k miles on them.

Gotta go for new wheel alignment, I bet I get 4.0-4.5 with the JBA.

[MENTION=133021]propain[/MENTION], what JBA did you go with? The regular or the HD? Any input on wheel clearance difference between Camburg and JBA? I haven't done my research on JBA for longevity, but considering possibly making the switch. I like the idea of easy to replace ball joints, but only if they are fundamentally stronger than Moog.
