Why not just leave that stuff installed?

I think I'd say the opposite. Why do the other 10% want to drive around with a rack full of crap? I'd keep my rack empty too knowing it won't be hard to load up when I need it.

Yeah I was going to say the same thing. For me going with a full length roofrack (SSO) was a no brainer simply for the fact that when I need it it's there. Growing up, my dad had a pickup truck with one of those full length bar setups and I can't tell you how many times thats come in handy for hauling things (wood, ladders, canopies, camping shit, etc).

I wouldn't want stuff mounted to it 24/7 because I'd need to remove it if I were picking up sheets of plywood for a project. Also because I think I'm already too close to the height of my garage now that I'm 2.5" lifted. xD
The other reason I wanted a full length was for easy mounting of an 8.5" awning. I don't leave it on all the time either but it has quick release mounts which make it a piece of cake.

Victory 4X4

I like my Victory 4X4. They gave me a first responder discount. It's all aluminum and low profile. There is a up charge for the black hardware kit but still worth the extra money. Shpping was less then a month and install was pretty easy.

I absolutely love my Victory rack and have mounted various things on it.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any off the shelf carriage bolts that fit in the extrusion bars. The heads of the bolts are typically too fat to slide in.

I have the full length K9 roof rack. I do love the flat surface. While K9 has a lot of accessories to assist you in mounting and securing all your desired gear I had a few custom brackets made to achieve some of my desired results.
1. The front light bar brackets to mount below the rack surface
2. a bracket adapter to mount my awing in tighter and at the height I wanted.

I've mounted both an ikamper and a 23Zero RTT with same K9 low profile RTT mounts.
Currently I have on my K9 Rack:
1. ikamper mini
2. 2 Alu-Box boxes and their K9 mounts, (w 2 50W solar panels)
3. under rack table and table slides
4. left and right flood lights
5. front light bar

I've redesigned my rack configuration several times and have mounted a 100W solar panel, rotopax cans, 23Zero tent (queen sized).

Point is, its very flexible.

The appeal for me is being able to haul some lumber, trim, plywood, pvc pipe etc with my 4runner. Like you I went with LFD, but the full length and in stainless steel for no rust and strength. I have no RTT or rotopax, my rack purchase has nothing to do with serious camping, but some of our daytrips could benefit from an awning which now becomes an option.

I don’t understand the appeal of running these full racks, that 90% of the pictures in here are completely empty and unused? I just ended up going with the LFD crossbars for my tent. Couldn’t be happier. Is a full rack really necessary to mount a rotopax?
