can u test an e locker without everything

so e-locker axel with out the switch and module am I able to put 12v to some of the wires of the harness see if it still works?

Just the rear axel some wire and a battery? I would not have the switch or the 4 x 4 module.

So I see where they are saying "by reversing the polarity of the green and green/red wires " should engage and disengage the locker? Does this sound correct and is that all I would need to do to see if it's worth buying the axel? Thanks for the help.
