Can we do this in a stock 4runner?

:wow2: I bet the new 4 runners could go up that because they have the crawl feature but comming down..i am not so sure. the 4 runners are pretty light and would most likely flip over on the down slope decent.

I have taken mine UP some pretty steep slopes but always get nervous going down because the rear tires come off the ground quite a bit.
 
I would say yes, the incline is relatively smooth so you should have decent traction, (nothing off camber to require lockers) and with a little driving skill and fresh underwear I don't see why not! :)

EDIT: I say going up is the easy part, just put it in low range, coming down I would prefer a manual transmission and low range, but it could be done in auto, just might leave a few skid marks, on the rocks and in my pants!

Isn't the active suspension inflating and deflating keeping the suspension from collapsing? If so then I'm not sure a stock, soft 4Runner wouldn't just endo, especially going down.

I probably won't because it may flip.

Going downhill should not be a problem...especially when 4th Gen has DAC.

I've tried DAC before on a WAY less decline, taking your foot off the brake pedal is racknerving.
 
by the way, after looking at the video again, the steepness of the slope is exaggerated. I know the videos says its not, but if you look at the grass and shrubs on the rocks they are not straight up, just tilt your head to the right and you will probably agree with me.
 
Thanks very much for the feedback. Personally I wouldn't attempt I myself; I wouldn't want to take a chance on damaging my 4runner.

I would feel much more comfortable locked up going up... sliding backwards would not end well.

Coming down would be the doosy! I would air up the front and air down the rear to about 12psi. Keep one foot on the brake... take it slooooow. The other foot would be poised to hit the gas in case I started to topple... it may screw up your truck, but it has a good chance at keeping you from rolling and may save your @$$!

The only thing I could find coming down was the RR Sport in the original video. The video also mentions that it's 45 degree hill, which is a bit less difficult than the 85 degree slope they are trying to portray.
 
If this Rubicon can do it, the Trail can too.

Hmmmmm... That Jeep backing up that hill looked easy and safe. If he got in trouble just drive down:hiding::whip2:

uphill I am down for that but downhill I would be crapping out of every orifice. Me and off camber have the greatest respect for one another. I don't mess with him and he doesn't mess with me. Would love to have seen a LEV O GAGE reading on that hill.

We don't have that descent control yet on a 3rd gen., and I doubt I could trust it anyways. Simply pushing in the clutch on that steep of decline could prove fatal. To see those LRs skid a bit- wow that to me is scary stuff.

To see that one guy stop on the incline and then resume accelerating, no I am not sure our rigs have enough power to do that. Not sure-don't really want to find out.:jaw drop:

Hats off to those Rover dudes. I will not risk my daily driver to prove anything to anyone. You can call me chicken- I can take it.
