Can we tow even MORE?

We have an '07 SR5 V-8 with 78k miles. We currently tow an '08 Trail Sport 22 foot travel trailer, that weighs in at 3200 lbs empty.

We are getting the itch for something a little larger with a slidout, a BH2510 Passport that weighs 4813 empty.

Our 4 runner tows like a CHAMP! It pulls well, plenty of power, no sway when using sway control and weight distributing hitch. The car is rated to tow up to 7000 lbs, and we wouldn't come close to that much weight...

It just seems like a BIG jump to tow 1600 more lbs.

Thoughts?

Oh yeah...

I called our local dealer, and spoke with a service advisor. They assured me that our 4-runner could handle the added weight, as long as we continue to use a weight-distibuting hitch.

I would think you would be just fine. Even full of water and supplies, that trailer probably has a GVWR of 6000 lbs, so you are still under the limit. You may want to add an external trans cooler if you do not have one already. Heavier trailers can really tax the trans, and a trailer that large would definitely be a burden on the trans and cause it to get hot quicker.

Also if not already equipped an aftermarket oil cooler kit would be advised just to keep that engine running good for a long time. there pretty cheap too an easy to install.

I am pretty sure that the V8, with the towing package came with an aux trans cooler standard.

I'm starting to lean towards a used pop up now actually... Just so much easier in every regard.
