Can you beer experts help me out

Here's the Scoop, I stopped drinking alcohol 9 years ago because I suffer from migraines and it is one of my migraine triggers. Well I've been reading that a lot of migraine sufferers have good luck with Guinness. I'm partial to Mexican beer, it goes good with Mexican food, and no other beer makes a better authentic michelada. I was wondering if anybody knew if any Mexican beers are similar to Guinness as far as ingredients and Brewing process Etc. I was thinking if I could find one or two that are similar to Guiness, then I might be able to have a beer once in awhile without getting a severe migraine.:reddance:

There’s a few Mexican stouts out there if you can find them, though I’m not sure they or any stout ale would make a nice michelada. Spent a long week in the Yucatán in March and had dozens of those delicious drinks, all with lager of some kind.

Sucks in Ohio you can’t find a decent michelada anywhere.
 
Neato Bandito

If you can find Neato Bandito from Deep Ellum Brewery give it a try. It's a Mexican style beer that's stouter than your traditional Mexican style beers

See I am uneducated in the beer category so I really don't know the difference in ale or lager, stout , etc. I don't know what any of that means. I'm guessing that Guinness is a stout and most Mexican beers (modelo, sol, corona etc) are lager?

Yeah...good for heart is very controversial given what it does to the brain in SMALL quantities.

Correct. Which poses a problem. If you like those typical Mexican beers for their flavors and lightness (so do I), a stout is most likely not going to quench that desire even if it is Mexican in origin. Negra Modelo is a good example. Bleah.

so basically none of the common Mexican beers are similar to Guinness. So I either drink Guinness, or see what happens if I drink a lager .

Not really. Think, most regional beers were made based on that location. Stouts tend to come from regions that are cooler in temperatures. And while today anyone and anywhere can make a stout, you'll typically see them in their seasonal form in the winter. So, they tend to be on the heavier side. Lighter lagers and wheat beers like a hefeweizen are typically designed around more warmer climates.
 
If it’s a michelada you’re after, lager would be the only way to go I feel like. If it’s the alcohol in the lager modelo is super low like 4.5 or honestly if it’s just the refreshing drink you want even an NA lager would be tasty.

I did bring home some of that chile ground worm spice from Mexico for the rim and some michelada mix but it’s just not the same. Some of he hood spots around town do have the 24oz Modelo Michelada “Tamarindo” which I think are fairly good.

I've never had a michelada. My MO is good tequila with sh*tty Mexican beer. I'll have to try one the next time I'm down there.
 
I agree with [MENTION=2]Thai[/MENTION] who i feel gave you the best advice in this thread so far despite the unnecessary social justice warrior comments from 1/2 cent. Stay away from it if it causes you migraines. You also could be slightly allergic to gluten which could be triggering those headaches.

Try vodka and 100% pure cranberry juice and see if you still get headaches. A clean drink and tastes better than beer IMO

The guy was asking for beer advice and you teetotalers gave unsolicited off topic advice, how that’s “the best advice in this thread” I have no idea.

Firstly, there are several different recipes for Guinness. The original is only brewed and distributed in Ireland from Saint James Gate Brewery.

They create different recipes for every other country/region they distribute to.

For instance, the Guinness sold in South Africa is 10% ABV, while the original in Ireland is closer to 4%.

Nothing brewed in Mexico is comparable in ingredients nor brewing process to Guinness, any of the iterations/recipes.

Sounds like you should just drink a Guinness with the information you've posted. It will NOT make a good Michaleda, however.

clear liquor is what they recommend besides guiness. vodka or gin. I may try that as well. thanks.

thank you, after doing some research I have learned that Guinness is a stout ale while most Mexican beer are lagers, so I guess nothing is similar. I guess I will try Guinness , and maybe just try a few different brews of Mexican beer and see what happens.
