Can you help identify this noise?

whenever i hit a bump, take a turn, or even jerk the wheel left and right as seen in this linked video, there is a knocking noise that comes from the rear of the truck. i want to say it comes from the passenger side but i am not too sure. i've attempted to jump up and down on the bumper but that doesn't yield the noise.

in the video the noise will start at 7 seconds and i looped it. you may have to turn your volume up.

i thought the spare might have been loose too, but it is not. i also took off the hatch panel and looked inside, nothing loose (aside from the broken lock cylinder, but that's too small and taped to the door to make that much noise).

If you were hitting bumps and it was bouncing like that, then I think your shocks are shot. It shouldn't oscillate that many times. The noise could be coming from your shocks.

most of the time they only make noise while in motion. can you easily push the back of the truck up and down? usually the easiest way to check shocks

I suggest checking all the suspension related bushings. Check to see if they are in fact present and if so what condition are they in. Check the shock bushings (top and bottom), sway bar (chassis and axle housing), upper and lower control arms and panhard bar. It sounds like rubbing to me too on the video and my first thought was the swaybar end link on the chassis bracket.

Pushing my rear end with my hand feels almost like dribbling a b'ball. Needless to say I'm getting 2 new springs and four new shocks put in next week. It does sound a lot like metal in motion, like bed springs or a head board.

Check the shock bushings (top and bottom), sway bar (chassis and axle housing), upper and lower control arms and panhard bar. It sounds like rubbing to me too on the video and my first thought was the swaybar end link on the chassis bracket.

i was actually jerking the wheel back and forth. i had expected the shocks as well, however when i replaced the rear axle seals, the shocks we not stock shocks and i assumed they were fairly "new." i bought the runner used (it was a corporate lease) and maintenance had been kept up.

hmm. i mean, it isn't difficult. i'm not too sure what one would define as easy. i'm over 200lbs. and the runner is stock...

thanks for the replies guys. i'll do some underbody research on friday and see what i can conclude.
