Can you tell me what this is?

Im trying to figure my 4runner out a little at a time and I'm just wondering what this is. It's clipped onto the driver side pillar where it meets the roof at the interior and it has a wire connected to it. It kind of looks like a factory tweeter, but it makes no sound. I'll get a picture uploaded tomorrow. I just want to know if I need to leave it, or if I can cut it off

Only thing I can think of is a CB speaker. Was there one ever installed in the truck? How about a pic?

I'm pretty sure it's for an old school phone.. I had one in my first car (99 accord) just looks like a 1 wired speaker about the size of a tweeter.

If you follow the wires back from the mic and the antenna base, you may find some other components too. Those parts either plugged into the phone cradle or into a separate box, depending on whether it was a handsfree kit for a cell phone or part of an old school mobile phone.

I'm sure it's for a phone because now that I think about it, we had this same stuff in a used Honda accord that had a phone installed in it.

I had similar speaker and external antenna on my 96 when I bought it. I removed both of them. Just pull the wires tight and cut them.

Those are for older Cellular One and Alltel Bag phones. The back is an external antenna and the one in front is a hand free speaker. They were popular in the 80's and early 90's. Oh boy, did I really just show my age!

Yeah, I was explaining to a kid at work how you really had to concentrate on driving with an old hardwired car phone. If you weren't paying attention you could wrap the handset cord around the steering column when turning a corner!
