can your tranny slip when down shifting?

Latley I've noticed when I coming to a stop at a light or stop sign I hear a slight knocking noise right before I come to a complete stop..im thinking when it sifts from 2nd to 1st....but it seems like it shifts fine when I accelerate....what could thatt knocking noise be?

How many miles do you have on your transmission (just assuming if you had it replaced, new engine etc. If its factory, whats your odometer?)? If its pretty old, thats common for transmissions. The synchronizers arent what they used to be and 1st is a heavily used gear for accelerating.

Just hit 90,000... origanal tranny..and never had a full flush.

Have your drive shafts and U-Joint lubed. The "thump" is known to be caused by lack of lube in the driveshaft expansion joints. These joints have been known to take up to 10 zerks if they have never been lubed before. Worked for my "thump" issue over a year ago.
