"Canadian" Bug Guard

For all of you out there that were looking for what we've all come to refer to as the "Canadian" bug guard, I found a dealer in the states. I just ordered mine from AB2Ning.com. The item is not yet on their website, but if you call 1-718-519-1994 and ask for Vernon you'll be all set. I got his info from Focus Auto Design, the Canadian company that makes the deflector (model # HDW 20G 03). He has them in stock now...just call and get yours.

Oh, and they do ship to military stationed overseas.

First of all, thanks for this info.
I Picked up mine last week, since I live in NYC.
I saved S+H.

After pickup, I read the instruction. It said that car with bug guard can not be machine washed, must be use hand wash place.
Anybody has experience machine washing with bug gaurd?
I am in NYC, hand washing all the time is not cheap.

And it uses bumpons on hood, with sticky back. Is that bumpon come out easily without any damage to hood if I want to take the gaurd out later?

Now I am hesitating to install because of above questions.
Please advise me.

The US Version doesn't have the "Fangs" like the canadian one.

First let me say that I referenced this as the "Canadian" version because for the longest time, it was thought that the only way to get this was to go to Canada and buy one from a Toy Dealer up there.

Secondly, I contacted Focus Auto Design (no matter what Form Fit says, Focus Auto Design manufactures this deflector and they are in fact a Canadian company) and received the contact info for a couple distributors in the US. As it turns out, now that I have the model number (HDW 20G 03) I see that there are a few distributors that sell this item (Auto Seattle being one of them).

SOOOOOO...you all there were looking for outlets to buy one now have some options. Go forth and purchase!

PS- I'll post pictures of mine when I get it and install it. I currently have the weathertech version so I may even do a poll to see which you folks think looks better.

Is Vernon in New York City? I hope he is. The 718 area code looks to me like a NYC area code....My main concerns with the bug deflectors are:
1)How easy it is to remove when you want to wash your truck.
2)Is there anything that has to be attached on top of the hood, I don't want the paint to be ruined with something attached either with velcro or 3M tape.
3)How is the vibration when you are on the highway doing 70mph?
4)Is there any part of the deflector that will come in contact with the hood and scratch it?

Yes, the store is located in Bronx, NYC.
I went to pick up mine.
But I am hesitating to install because I have same question as msanta.
It is attached with 6 rubber "c" clips, screw top and bottom. The bottom screw maybe touch the hood.
And two little bumpons and three large bumpons gotta be attatched on hood with 3M tape.
Also, it can not be machine washed, shall be hand washed.
Is anybody have answers to questions I posted above?

it'll help, but not totally eliminate it, I'm speaking from past experience on previous cars not on the 4Runner but they are all pretty much the same. you'll still get the dead bugs on your windshield, not so much on your hood.

I'd get it mainly to protect the hood from stone chips...

I just got it in the mail and installed it. Here are your answers:

1) I haven't removed mine, but only 6 screws are used to hold the deflector to the c-clamps that are on the leading edge of the hood.

2) there are 6 pieces of 3M protective tape-like material that are installed on the hood where the c-clamps go to prevent paint damage. I was happy with the quality of the material and as I stated above, it is now installed.

3) No vibrations yet. You have to pull out the measuring tape and follow the instructions. They explain exactly where to place the large and small bumpers and my deflector rests on them at all times. So, there is no movement of my deflector. I live in Germany and have had my V8 up over 100mph with no problems.

4)No part of the deflector touches the hood. It touches the 5 bumbers and the 6 c-clamps. The c-clamps go on the hood, but overtop of the 3M tape.

Finally, this deflector is different in every way (installation, look, design) than the weathertech that I removed. I like them both and would say that the height of the weathertech will help propel bugs over the windshield better than my new one, however, the look and extra rock protection around my grill easily justify the use of the new one to me.

So, I give it 2 thumbs up and now the rest is up to you.
