Canadian LTD Running Boards

I recently took delivery of my 2010 Limited and I am very pleased with the fit, finish and tightness of everything on the vehicle except the running boards. The "aluminum" type RB's that come on the Canadian Limited's seem to be rusting. There are many small rust spots appearing on the Boards on both sides. I have tried to get them off with various cleaners. Has anyone else expereinced this and if so what have you done about it? Is this a legitimate warranty issue? tks for your help.

Aluminum does not rust. Your running boards are not rusting. What you are seeing is metal deposits that have been sprinkled along the road from various brake rotors from trucks and other vehicles, and these tiny bits of metal — like dandruff — begin to rust. If you look closely at any white or silver car, you will see the same thing all over the body, mostly after a winter season.

They do polish out, but it takes some muscle and quite a few beers over the course of an afternoon. I use Mothers three-stage wax, the first is the one that seems to get rid of these nasty flakes. Do it again in the fall, and the final coat of wax will help protect the boards, as well as the finish of your truck.

Try using clay bar it does wonders to remove the deposits which are stuck to your truck and rusting. I use clay magic it is readily available at most auto parts store.

Have you tried Flitz?

It's what we use on boats at the beginning of each season to take care of all the rust spots from the previous year of saltwater.

i second flitz if its being used only on metal

Thanks everyone. Good ideas! Just came back from a 2,000 mile trip to Myrtle Beach from Ontario. Will get at the RB tomorrow.
