Can't believe that they still make this

I was gettin' a gatorade last night, so i pull up to a local 7-11. As luck would have it, i pull up to another 4runner. His was all black limited with the 8. But, there was something differenct about it, and i couldn't actually put my finger on it. It wasn't like it was something that really made it look good, it was something that had the opposite effect. Oh, i know what it is, THE EMBLEMS ALL OVER THE CAR WERE GOLD COLLORED. Man oh man, i had no idea they still made those things.

Gotta tell you, he love my rig, complimented me on it as well, and as did i to his. I mean after all they are birds of the same flock, but i just bit my tongue converning his choice of colors for the emblems. Efing gold. Man there should be a law against defacing trucks or any vehicle for that matter

And that is my take on that

It's probably not a factory option.... but most dealerships will apply the gold plating to the chrome emblems already on the vehicle.

I used to have to do it as a tech at Toyota for buyers who really wanted the "gold package" (barf!)

Basically, you attached a grounding wire with a tiny clip on the end to one side of the emblem and then take an electrically charged brush and go over the emblem right on the vehicle. Like magic, the chrome becomes gold plated.

We also had factory made kits that replaced the chrome emblems, but those were much more rare, probably because of the expense.

But I agree with ya... gold packages should have gone the way of curb feelers and white wall tires.
 
As far as the curb feelers and white walls, its a good look for the era, but man, in this day and age, the gold no longer represents the BLING BLING

they should make that isht in platinum

You can blame the 1980s

when monochrome paint jobs were highlighted with gold emblems. Remember those AMG Mercedes in all black or all white? All red/black cars had gold emblems and gold rims too. The start of fancy rims were the gold basket weave rims with chrome outside and gold inside weave. Just the thing to drive while blasting Blondie singing "Call Me" from Americna Giggolo....yeah, put those Serengetis on, slick back that hair with mousse, crank up that CD, back when Debbie Harry was such a hottie......

Then it spread to all kinds of cars to have that monochrone paint and gold emblems.

Back then a NEW car looked good but just looked tacky as it aged. Kinda like an over made up tart trolling for a date in a singles bar.

Sorry, I am just a frustrated sociology professor.

Now it's 20"+ rims on SUVs and video panels everywhere. One of the reasons I fought off buying a SUV for so long. Personally, I would've like to have 15" wheels with 32x10 tires but I liked the SE with bigger brakes. Makes sense on a 3 ton vehicle.

1 ton = 2000lbs
my truck is approximately 4500

so you could call our trucks deuce and halfs... :arrow:
 
Actually this guy was like 50 or so, with the worst efing hair piece i have ever seen. Come to think of it, it was perfect that he had the gold emblems.

But he def had on an IOU shirt with the velcrow white reeboks
 
6000 pounds?

How'd we get that heavy? The 2004 Toyota brochure lists the 4Runners at 4475 pounds give or take a few for the V8....

Hairpiece and reeboks with velcro straps....

Was he wearing those purple velour sweat pants and a gold chain around his neck dangling a gold spoon? Maybe his stereo cranking out Survivor's Eye of the Tiger real loud that the bass is blurring and distorting?

Z. Cavarrichi? Boy, that goes way back. How about his Member's Only jacket?

Yea.. not a big fan of the gold emblems on any color. Its kind of tacky... what's nice are those gunmetal colored ones. :D

stock = chome/silver
gunmetal = darker = :D

although.. it depends on the color of your car. For my black one i'd prefer the stock ones.
