I cant seem to find a clunk in the front end of my 97. I first thought it was my steering stops at full lock but its doing it before that. Ive had an alignment done and they said all the ball joints and bushings were good. It will do it almost every time when you start to back up after parking. Its driving me crazy trying to figure this out.
Cant find clunk in front end.

How are your rotors and calipers? Sticky caliper possibly?

Almost sounds like a brake thing, especially if happening in reverse or when moving from a stop.

my steering rack makes a noise, it clicks, pops and snaps a few times while im slowly backing in or out of a parking spot and turning the wheels.

That's for sure your steering stops. You can ignore them as I've done on my two that did it or put grease on them, or spend $35:

This same thing drove me nuts on my 97' limited. i ended up replacing everything in the front end, inner tie rods, outer tie rods, steering rack bushings, cv's ubj, lbj, bearings, control arm bushings, brakes, calipers, rotors, struts, and at the end of the day my skid plate was loose. It made the exact same type of noise, popping and clunking when backing, drove me nuts for a while. realized that the place that I had last taken my runner for an oil change had not properly tightened all the bolts. Might not be your issue, but if nothing else check there just to be sure. All that stuff was on the list of *to eventually do*, guess I just bumped up the time frame a bit. Hope that helps.
