Cant fix the shifting after adjusting TB cables..

Hey guys, recently i had done the tightening of the throttle, kickback and CC cables to my truck like everyone else. I did get a nice pickup in acceleration but i noticed more abrupt shifts, almost like its shifting to early?.. I tried adjusting the kickdown cable again but it seems to be about the same.

Any ideas? Thanks

It sounds like you have the throttle and/or kickdown cables too tight. Are they pretty even as far as slop/slack? Have you tried backing them off a little?

Like kball said, back the tension off the cable, the transmission cable that is and then take it for a test drive.

After replacing my valve cover gaskets, it took me three trips to get the cable tension just perfect for the A/T.

Same here..I drove around with and incorrectly tightened AT cable for a while. I just returned it to stock and tightened the other two cables and shifts are back to normal. There should be a rubber bumper/stopper on the cable for the AT cable that shows you where to return the tension to.

I was told by my mechanic that there are Toyota factory settings for the throttle body cables. Basically he said that while sometimes the cables can stretch out, it is ACTUALLY the pedal that is usually bent over 7-10 years on these 3rg Gens.

I had set the idle too high, he adjusted it back to factory, bent the pedal and I was on my way. I probably shouldn't have messed with it since I didn't really understand how it worked.
