Can't Stop!

I just looked at my brake pedal. There is a adjustment on the brake booster where the brake pedal mounts to it. Adjust that linkage in towards the firewall to bring your brake pedal off of your switch.

Because of me not following those simple words, I now have a dead battery to deal with. I should have adjusted my brake pedal 2 seconds after SV told me how. lol

With all the little problems I ran into, I'm glad I did the repair myself. I figured I saved anywhere from $300 - $450.

I figured I would add to this existing thread instead of starting my own in order to add context. In my case, I don't hear any noise and the second or third time I try to depress the brake it works. But twice now this week I wasn't able to stop right away and it's a little scary. I can't have my family in the truck till this is fixed. If the problem is intermittent do you guys still think it's the brake booster?

Feels hard? When you feel the resistance does it feel higher off the floor or same as before?

Feels soft and goes down to floor?

Same thing happened to me, it ended up locking my brakes I had to bleed the brakes to get it home. It was the master cylinder. I replaced it with a cheap one from Autozone/Oreillys and about a year later same thing happened. I bought an Aisin after that and no problems in about 10 years.

Just an FYI I never touched the booster

It feels like stepping on a brick cemented to the ground, there's basically no give. Right away, high off the floor.
So it happened again this morning and I was going slow enough with enough open road in front of me to try out keeping pressure on the brake pedal. A lot of pressure. After about 3s the pedal SLOWLY started to depress and slow down the truck.

Thanks for the info. Was your problem intermittent or did it just lock up out of the blue straight away with no warning signs?
How much was the master cylinder and how was the install?

It was out of the blue. I was driving around and truck was slowing i had to downshift and like you engine was bogging down. Finally got to the point where it stalled. I was dumbfounded, i ended up bleeding brakes. Drove it home and had to stop and bleed em another time before i made it there.

Its not hard at all, just make sure you bench bleed it. Cost me close to $100 if i remember right, for the Aisin MC

You could actually upgrade to a 90s pickup MC the bore is bigger and will give you a little more stopping power. There are many threads on it, here and yotatech if you wanna research it

I got mine from amazon. Not sure just go by your year make trim etc. try rockauto as well

Thanks man. I'm just concerned that the MC isn't the problem. It seems that everyone that has had a MC go bad had it go out for good, not intermittently
like mine. Is this a problem that a shop could diagnose? I've always believed non-reproducible issues to be difficult to diagnose.

edit: Holy cow I just realized this is the Classic subforum. I need to be in the 3rd gen. I'll just start my own thread over there. Thanks for your time.
