Can't sync Homelink !

Just bought an 08 Urban Runner. I can't sync the Homelink for the life in me.

I tried the manual instructions which was crap. Didn't work... Downloaded instructions from Homelink, tried it with both ways, didn't work. Even tried it with the instructions from my buddies' S4 (should be the same). Didn't work. I reset everything I try a different method...

My garage door is a "Rolling Code" one. What do I need to do? It is definitely not something dealership can help with, so I am at your mercy...

Follow the directions in the manual to program the homelink. You then need to push the "learn" button on your garage door opener.

You now have approx. 30 seconds to press the homelink button in your Runner. The manual should specify this exactly. I have a 03 Limited and my manual was easy to follow.

:iagree: The key is to put your current opener into learn mode. If you have a very new system in your garage (1 year old or newer) this isn't always necessary. Otherwise you need to get out the manual and find out how to put it into learn mode. For my Sears (Craftsman) unit I had to do some searching on the internet to find the instructions.
 
I have the rolling code too. It works for me in the same exact way rockwall states in his post. Once you press the "learn" button on your garage door opener, press your home link button a few solid times and it'll work.
 
I also have a Craftsman opener, for some reason I could only program the first button (closest to the driver) on the Homelink. I tried to program the second with my parents opener and couldnt get it to work.

Odd, I have 3 different rolling code door programmed into mine. Never had a problem with it.
 
I just moved to an apartment that has a rolling code garage opener. I noticed that the directions on the opener itself say I have to hold the button on the opener at the same time as transmitter. The 4R directions would not work for me.

However, I have not done it yet. I need to get my wife in the garage with me because I cannot reach both at the same time. I'll try it this evening and see how it works. Not sure you said it in your post, but also read the directions for your opener as well. Like the one I have, it may have a different programming process to follow.
 
I figured it out and Homelink works now. I think the problem might have been the Ceramic tint on the windows. I had to program the button when the car was outside the garage with the front windshield (the only window without tint) in direct view of the garage door opener). I wonder if anybody else experienced this. Couple times, I had to roll my window down to open the garage..... Nevertheless, it works now....Thx to all who chimed in....

By the way, All I had to do was to press the Learn button on the garage door opener, and then press the homelink button firmly twice. That's it. Once you press the learn button, you have 30 seconds to press the homelink button. It is a one man job...

Same here...only the first button no matter what.

Craftsman opener as well.

Back the truck out of the garage and make sure the homelink is in "view" of the opener, and it will work, i spent hours with mine under the opener and then read the forum, backed it out and it hit the first time.

Does anyone know why only certain buttons would work with certain systems, or at all? To me that makes absolutely no sense. I would think that most people just give up after they have a button that works and do not actually double check in the current configuration they have their vehicle to see if the button they wanted would work. Just curious and just my 2 pennies of thought.

I have the first two buttons programmed to work with Craftsman openers. No problems at all setting them.
 
Sorry to rehash an old thread, but I am not able to program my used 05 4R Ltd either. My dad, who drives a Lexus RX330 w/HomeLink had tried with his Genie to get it working and no luck! It dawned on me last night that since the previous owner didn't think to clear out his name and home address from the Nav, he probably didn't clear his HomeLink either. So I cleared it out according to directions and tried the training button and HomeLink again. Tried it from outside the garage. Tried it from inside the garage. No luck.

I did read there is a battery. Is this true for the HomeLink installed near the map light? If so, where is it located? The manual was a bit confusing because it refers to a remote ad I'm not sure if its talking about the installed HomeLink.

If your garage door has the rolling code it's a bit more challenging to program. It took me several attempts to finally get it. When it failed, I cleared the HomeLink and started over. I don't remember the exact sequence and steps, but I remember having to hit the learn button on the overhead motor first and then again after holding down the desired HL button.

There isn't a battery in the HomeLink module. It's powered by your vehicle's battery.
