Why would a 4Runner sold new in Bentonville, AR that has spent it's entire life in Arkansas have a Celsius Thermometer in the rear view mirror?

The owner's manual says that a celsius thermometer means a Canadian vehicle.

Did you run the vin for vehicle history? If i were at my computer i would post some links for free online. I know at our "dmv" they only charge around $20 to run a vin check

Could be an mod? Is your speedo in Mph? I doubt if your speedo is American, the car isnt.

Yes, I ran a check. Everything checks out by the VIN. Sold in Bentonville, AR with 70 miles on the odo. Sold again to Searcy, AR with 108k. And now I bought it with 157k.
I guess it's possible someone replaced the mirror at some time. Maybe from a salvage yard.
Most Arkansasans can't even spell "Celsius". Oh wait, it only needs a "C"! :nerd:
 
None of the 3rd gen 4runners came with a factory installed mirror thermometer.

It must have been installed after left the dock.

The limiteds have a display thermometer that is part of the climate control. It can be changed form F to C.
 
My 2000 SR5 has the mirror thermometer/ compass. i will play with it tomorrow and see if i can change it and get back with you.

OhTwo... Welcome from another Arkansas member. If I recall correctly, I have a brochure in my manuals that gives me details of a rear view mirror with thermometer/compass controls. Upon finding the brochure I knew this was not the case for me because I had a very crappy flimsy rear-view mirror. It seems someone had replaced it for some reason and removed all the wiring for it. I don't know why.

Does your mirror not have different modes? Can it not read *F as well?

I've since added a Tacoma rear view mirror with auto-dimming feature but haven't gotten around to hooking it up. It serves its purpose though for now. It's by far 100X better than the crappy one that was in there.

i know on the climate control center console units you can jump them to switch between c and f readings, i would imagine the rear view mirror pulls it's data from there , but really i don;t have a clue, i'm with singtoe on this one, i''ve never seen a stock 4runner digital rear view mirror....
