Car Audio debate

Well I used to be big into the car audio scene here's vids of my old setups the 1st is my competition setup when I lived in Germany and competed every weekend during the season.

So my debate now that I have a 1st gen which is pretty much made for trail driving is if I should sell off my system and put the money into suspension lifts and mods for trails or rebuild a smaller lighter system. I really don't want to use up all my cargo room again and have all that added weight, BUT I love car audio. Do any of you all run systems and what have you don't to be efficient as far as space goes?

its been years since i've owned a 1st gen... But it needs some sounds. I always hated the fact Toyota only put 4" speaker openings up front!

My vote: build a smaller system.

I have a 30 dollar deck run to 20 dollar 6 inchers I hacked into the door panel. I vote for suspension and lifts.

In my 4runner, me too! But I will build a good sound quality stereo in my runner eventually. I will probably use something along the lines of some Zapco amps with a 3-way front stage with the pods on the dash and a 10 or 12" sub in the rear that will be molded into where the jack used to be.

I'm not too big into the sound pressure. I would rather hear the quality of the music. Just my preference.

Nice work on those! Actually SV dude I have the same idea I want to use my 4"s and tweets from my old door panels and put them on the dash and run my 6.5s in the kick panels. Then I am thinking a couple shallow mount 8"s or 10"s in the back for substage. then I can sell my $700 amps and $300 sub and get some suspension done.

That's the right idea! As long as you don't over power your sub and use a sealed box. I'm not a boom boom bass guy I like the clean responsive bass that is not over powering. Sound quality

Probably within the next 6-8 months I'll do my stereo. It will be an interesting project because I'll completely rebuild my door panels for some 8" mid bass if I can fit them depth wise, I'm pretty sure I can. Then I'll use 3 or 4" for the mid range then whatever I can find for the tweets. I'll put the mid range and tweets on the dash inside of some pods. Then the amps and sub will be hidden in the rear of the runner.

I just gotta convince the wife that it IS necessary for me to spend more and more money on the runner These things get expensive!

Yeah convincing the wife is always my biggest challenge too. There should be room in the doles for some 8"s. If anything add a few MDF rings to make it more shallow. We should do twin install threads here sine we are doing the same build

If I went out and spent a ton of money without asking... well, I would be in the **** house for sure. Can't imagine that changing when we get married in September.

Yeah man thankfully my wife is cool as hell about buying stuff, she understands that upgrading my cars and building systems is key to my mental health. If I am not working on something or drawing up plans to do so I go crazy.
