Car Seats

This post is to all the dads, moms, grandparents or whatever you may be. How are you putting car seats in into the 3rd gens. I know there is the old fashioned manner, which you just put the belt behind the seat. I'm wondering about the anchors that are used for car seats these days. I'm pretty sure there is the anchor in the back of the 4runner, but does anyone have the two anchors between the seats. I know it wasn't until 2001 that they started requiring them. I know I will be fine with just the belt, but I'm seeing if anyone did anything different. Just trying to be as safe as possible. Pictures would be great.

I'm running just the seatbelt with the top strap/hook going over the back of the seat to one of the cargo loops. I went to one of those Baby Seat installation clinics at my local Fire Department, and that was how they installed it. It's plenty safe!

I have an 02 but mine dont have any anchors between the seats that ive seen but i can easily install some if i really needed tho i just stick with the middle seatbelt and jsut make sure its really tight and everything seems to be working very well so far... i can actually get it tighter then im my gf's car which has the anchors and we use the provided carseat clips.

Yeah I'm confident about the strap and strap that goes over the seat. I was just curious if they actually had the rear hook and is anyone had the anchors or put some in. Just trying to keep the baby as safe as possible.

On the Rearward facing seats i think we used the hooks, the forward facing ones we used the the regular seatbelt behind the carseat.

On my 2002 I use the anchor that is between the seats with a heavy duty steel snap ring to for an extension, then on the opposite side, I use the cargo anchor and another steel snap ring. The car seat anchoring strap is connected to these and ran through the lower part of my sons car seat.
Then I hook up the rear strap to the anchor on the back of the rear seat.
Its in there so tight , when I grab the car seat and shake it, the whole truck moves.
Its a pain in the butt to remove and install, but my kid aint movin

I've been using a Walmart high back seat with built in shoulder loop through which the upper strap routes. So basically the lap and shoulder strap combo worked out just fine without additional restraint. However it never hurts to take additional measures for safety. Recently my boy unlatched his restraint without my permission because he explained the belt locked him in place and restricted his movement. Had to explain to him that's what seat belts are for The 4R 's trigger mechanism is slightly on the sensitive side at least on mine.

i latched the seat belt, left hook around seat and latched to anchor in back, then latched top hook and other hook on the back of seat and tightened everything up.. it doesnt move at all and i think its actually safer and more secure then regular hooks in other vehicles... if you need a picture of what i am talking about, just PM me...

This is what I am doing as well. It's pretty solid and doesn't move.

I believe I remember looking in the manual and seeing a diagram for a bolted in loop you can install. There is a bolt hole under the carpet (the manual gives dimensions to find it). I'm guessing the dealer sells that part if you want it. Ive just seatbelted her seat in for now but will connect the over the seat hook to the existing cargo loop. Good idea.

i just run the seat belt through the back of the car seat. If you pull the seat belt all the way out until it clicks when it retracts it locks. so put your knee on the car seat. pull all of the slack out of the seat belt and as it retracts it will be solid as a rock then like others i put the top strap off the car seat to the cargo loop in the back. Your car seat should come with a little metal clip for the seat belt if you cant get it to lock i believe its call a seat belt lock clip its about a 2$ item at babys r us if you don't have one. I use that in conjunction with locking the seat belt.
