car shakes when in "D"

You know how in really old cars when you have the a/c turned on and you have the car in "D" and your foot on the brake the entire care shakes..why does my 2010 4runner do that now? If i turn the a/c off then no shaking, but after it's on it shakes again. I would say 1 outta 10..10 being the worse shaking it's a 4. I was hoping that after a couple thousand miles of breaking it in it would stop. Can anyone shed any light on this matter and perhaps offer a fix? Shoudn't the car be shake free like it is when i put it into neutral and keep my foot on the brake?
Thanks

Seems to be the nature of these beasts. I've only run my A/C twice so I will keep a feel out for it next time, however, I had a friend move my 4R and they asked 'Why does it shake when you start it?' I did notice that it does 'shake' when you start it. Thinking back none of my other SUV's have.

What RPM is the idle at when the A/C is on and off??

fxoffroad--Same question to you....and anyone else for that matter.

The idle should raise enough for the load of the A/C compressor to be offset. It might be hard to tell from the tach. You might need to bring it in for a check.

My 4runner does vibrate a little, enough to know that something is making the engine rev a little more.

In my 2000 Jeep Cherokee, One time I refilled the R-134 Refrigerant using the little colored gauge that some bottles come with. It was in the Green, but when I drove it to school and turned on the A/C, the whole truck started vibrating violently, It was like driving over washboard with max psi in the tires. I quickly turned the A/C off, rechecked later and this time the gauge showed it was way overcharged, so I removed some refrigerant and it was back to normal.

If your 4Runner shakes a-lot, maybe there is too much refrigerant in the A/C system. I doubt it since it's brand new and they probably put the same amount in each 4runner, but you never know.

thanks for the insight guys..guess I'll just have to take it in..But just so I can understand..my car should not vibrate at all just like when I put it into neutral correct? thanks again

I have my 4runner for 2 weeks and have run the A/C all the time. No shakes at all on my end. Certainly no vibrating in neutral. Just my limited experience.Good luck with Service.
