Carbon Fiber Wrap over chrome

I did a little Photoshopping today and I am diggin' what I am seeing. Considering using carbon fiber vinyl wrap to cover up all of the chrome on my rig instead of doing flat black paint. I only photoshopped the Baja Rack Fairing and the piece around the front grill emblem, but I want to do it on the foglight surrounds, the lower chrome strips on all four sides, the back piece under the emblem (but not the "4runner" letters), the door handles, and maybe the silver pieces on the interior center console. Form this pic alone, I am really liking it. What do you guys think? Should I do it?

Aghhhhh! :wow: sorry man, that's just not a good concept. Stick with flat black or paint match if you don't like the chrome. Anything else looks wrong to me. Unless you bling it with fake diamonds!

It would look great on the Black and Mag Grey!

I personally don't like it 'blacked out' but I do like the looks of what it 'could' be! I would just to the strip in the grill, not the rack though.
 
You asked what we think so I'll be honest (I'm not a fan). Looks a littler "ricer" to me to be honest.

But, it's your rig........you do what you like.

On a separate note, how do you like your Baja Rack and do you have anymore pics of it?
 
I am not a fan of it either. If you are going to black out the chrome I think flat black will look better.

If you end up going with the carbon fiber wrap do send pics.

I don't see it. Sure, if he used a LOT more of it, but that little bit, no way. Trust me, I am against the whole 'ricer' look and I think that would be fine. Tons of SUV's run around with CF and are not 'ricers'. Our 06' F-150 FX4 came standard with carbon fiber trim around the dash area and I actually like it, and that is FORD (insert manly dirty men)! Like I said, if he goes and wraps every piece of shinny metal with it and glues on a 3' tall 'wing' then I would turn and :barf:. Lowering the 4R or adding anything more than the 20's (17's in my opinion but since it come with the 20's on the LE) brings it 10x's closer to 'ricer' than a little CF wrap. It would NOT look good with the white, red, or blue though.
 
Wow, I wasn't expecting that...glad I asked. Thank you to everyone who is honest, and keep 'em coming. I want to see if anyone else might agree it looks ok. After I posted this, I went and looked at some of the material and I still like it (have no idea why...as I am not the flashy type...that's why I want to black out the chrome in the first place). There are two types of CF wrap patterns. A smaller one and a larger one. For this, I was thinking about the smaller one, which is much more subtle than the Photoshopped pic in the thread. Still on the fence...

LOVE the Baja Rack! Highly functional. Great for quickly tying things onto the roof. I use it at least once a week. I posted a bunch of pics in the Baja Rack thread when I first got it. Check there. If there is a pic you don't see, then let me know and I can post more. People ask me about it ALL OF THE TIME.
 
Don't care for it. I won't say it's ricey, but it uh...... detracts...... it busys up pieces that should be left just trim.

How hard is that stuff to get off?
 
No idea how hard it is to get off...question for the detail shop. I know that they put the stuff all over fancy cars these days. Not just the carbon fiber print, but also the clear wraps and other colors. They use a heat gun to stretch it on and make it adhere that way, but I don't know if a heat gun and some kind of solvent would remove it without hurting the paint. Surely someone on here knows...

Veering toward flat back after all of these comments...

I was surprised by the negativity as well. I think it would look good on Black, Grey & White (probably red too). I see it listed as a mod in your dig so I’m guessing you did it anyway. What do you think? Was it hard to do? How has it held up over time? Thanks!

Funny you hated chrome then...I had an 07 FJ and there was very little chrome on it. So now I have an 11 4R Limited and I liked the vehicle over all but I'm not a fan of chrome lol so chrome hiding is still a thing! And I covered front and rear chrome with Plastidip. Looks completely factory.
