Carfax or Autocheck?

Which do you prefer and why?

I chose CarFax because most every dealer supports it, they offer a buyback guarantee, and I can get them for free from work.

Helped me find a few cars for friends... and some old ones that I/friends used to own... which according to Carfax have all met their own demises.

I had an '06 Highlander that was involved in a 'fender bender' - damage went to the tune of $12,000.00. While the incident was reported to PD, and my insurance carrier covered everything, nothing ever appeared in the CARFAX report that I paid for (correct VIN entered) before I got rid of it in '09!

Let the buyer beware!

Carfax doesn't always show everything, that's why the buyer has to use their own discretion and ask everything they should, as well as feel out the seller. As for dealers, I don't usually bother with them because of the fact that they don't know the car as well as the owner would, etc.

Never heard of Autocheck.

Agreed, Carfax doesn’t tell you jack! I bought a 1 owner car awhile back which the owner had for many year (thought this was a good sign). I checked the Carfax just to be on the safe side and it was clean. Later, I find out the car was basically held together with bondo. The car had been repainted well when I bought it but after a year I began to notice cracks in the paint on the driver side door and when I removed the spare there was a ton of bondo in in the trunk. This car was in at least 2 accidents. You can easily have a car repared on the side and never report the accident. Carfax is a waste of money.

they are cheaper and i like the report a lot better.

after using both, Im gonna have to vote for Autocheck, they include the info for Auctions and stuff, and have consistently more records than Carfax..

plus, its 45$ for unlimited checks for a month, vs. carfax 45$ for 4 checks period...

Ive already looked at 4 cars and havent picked one yet, I would have been putting down another 45$ if I didnt switch to AutoCheck...

Plus, Autocheck is done by Experian, which is a credit agency.

Lol thata good, cause i have a carfax for my 4runner and there is no info whatso ever that it was even at an auction let alone sold at one.
