Cargo leveling platform - tie downs?

I have an old carpeted leveling platform (that I also realized is not exactly sized correctly! ha) but am looking to replace it, but have a few questions:

My current one just sits in place, but I'd like to tie the new one into the 4runner WITHOUT drilling new holes. With proper measurement, I think I could bolt through to the tie-down points right below the rear seats... but what about near the hatch? The tie-downs there sit outside the square and I don't really have the knowledge or capability to add wings to a platform to go over the sides - also not sure it's worth it?

And then I'd like to have tie-down on the platform itself. I suppose at the most basic, I could simply drill some holes then install t-nuts from the bottom side right? I've seen others with track systems which allow you more versatility/repositioning and that's enticing to me. However I really don't want the track to sit ON TOP of the platform and catch on to things/block things/etc. So how would I solve that then?

My guess on the second part is I would have to router out the slot (don't even have a router, ha...)? Looking at random tracks on amazon, it seems they are on average about 0.4" deep... would that be acceptable in a 3/4" plywood? It seems like what's left would be too thin to actually provide some strength?

I used the template on there and used 4 nutserts and the 4 bolts for the third row seats. I believe all 4runners have the 4 rear bolts in the cargo area, they just might be covered, but you shouldn't have to drill any new holes. made some custom supports on the underside and it's solid

I mounted a track system on mine, it's not recessed but only sticks up 0.4". I have a rubber backed carpet and moving blanket as a cargo liner in there now and it's pretty flush. you could just use 1/2" plywood between the tracks as well but then you're platform is getting heavy

I wouldn't use t nuts, that's just my opinion. they tend to loosen when repeatedly used. the L track system is much more robust.

On my leveling platform, I use these to tie down loads. They're pretty low profile, never had an issue sliding stuff over them. Of course they're not as flexible as using tracks, but with a few carefully chosen points, I've never found that I haven't had a tie down point I couldn't use.

As far as securing the platform goes, I usually strap stuff using both the on platform points and the factory tie down locations to secure the load and platform to the truck itself. I'm sure there are better ways to do it though.

looked at goose gear? they make platforms for the 4Runners for the back
