Cargo net installed, finally!!

Well, my first mod is admittedly a small one, but all things must start somewhere :fro:

I finally got my cargo net installed this weekend. I decided against the OEM mounting hardware. Since I had to drill holes into the cargo area sidewalls anyway, I got some 1/4" eye bolts and anchored them in. I attached the net to the bolts and the D-loops in the floor with carabiners so it would be an easy on/off thing if I need to take the net off. Plus, with the eye bolts, I have another option to use for tie downs if I need. Overall, I'm happy with the results :bluejump:

I know the cargo net is not everyone's cup of tea, but I need it because I do use the 4Runner as my grocery getter...

I like it and it's nice to know groceries that may have shifted won't fall out when you open the rear hatch. Alos would be good for keeping a small dog in the back with the hatch open when parked at a social event or taking a break when wheeling with the pups.

No worries man we all got started small in our own way. Stick around long enough we will have you lifting and roof racking and big tires and get your wallet ready!

with an 02 has to be an auto tranny...

okay we look out for one another on here and Yota Tech-the older your ride gets the more likely the dreaded "strawberry milkshake" can occur and destroy your auto tranny.

Be proactive and at a minimum change out the factory radiator which is known to fail internally and mix radiator fluid with your tranny cooler's auto tranny fluid.

KOYO A1998 radiator bolts right up. Roughly $120ish shipped online. 45 minute do it yourself job, and I am a complete idiot with all things mechanical. Did this for my friends 01 Limited at end of June. She'll be good to go for another 8-10 years or more.

For more extreme tranny protection some guys go whole hog and install a tranny cooler instead. Spend a little time now and save yourself a whole lot of money and grief later.

Enjoy that new to you ride!

For those of use with a manual tranny, is the "strawberry milkshake" problem an issue? Sorry for the threadjack.


As for your cargo net mod, well executed. Has an OEM look.

Yota Tech has several good writeups. Search "KOYO A1998" here or there or strawberry milkshake 4Runner or google is almost always more productive.

Nope Prelate-us manny tranny guys have no tranny cooler lines running to our radiators. Strictly an auto tranny issue.

One more advantage of shifting for ourselves! Not to mention we can whip those guys butts 0-60!

:bigok: That's OK--with the Runner I was glad to get an automatic for those leisurely, grocery-getting drives. For the 0-60 runs I like the 6 speed gearbox in my 911 Turbo :driving:;):

Albeit not nearly as quick (or cool), my CTS-V makes me giggle when stoplight drag racing. However, you still win.

:peace: I really like the CTS-V, great lines, 4 doors and an LS2 (?) powerplant... What's not to love? :cheers:

Thanks for the idea and write up. I bought a net in the classifieds (from an '04) and picked up some hardware from Lowe's and installed everything about an hour ago. Looks great!
