I need help deciding what to do!

Right now i have a chair a picnic mat thing a big tool box a recovery bag and a milk carton box that holds ****. I need to organize that and find a way to put all the recovery tools and random **** into a good space.

I was thinking of making a 6 inch tall chest like thing that you just have to lift the top to get to the inside and make it line up with the back cargo space.... or find a good box to put back there but i dont want **** sliding around anymore, very annoying!!!

if you have ideas or have anything like what i am talking about please post pictures or links to help out!

I am looking to do the same thing.

It's very military like but I like it. I use a rectangle tupperware that is a pain and looks like crap. I also have to tie down my kicker that is being kicked all around the rear.

If you have rear deck, you could do what I did.

I bought some vinyl 4"x4" fence posts from home depot and placed them under the deck. All of my gear and tools are under the deck but the top is still free for groceries (and other junk my wife leaves there).

It creates a kind of trunk but the edge is right next to the cargo net and you don't have to worry about everything falling off the edge like you do if the deck is in the up position.

There is a smallish V-shaped area behind the seat that we use for storage as well.

Frankly, it's the only decent use for the otherwise useless deck that I've found.

My friend has a MOLLE rack in his FJ from springtail. I tried to modify it to fit my 4Runner, but it was just difficult enough to keep me from doing it on my own. I wish Springtail would make a similar rack that sat over the wheel well in the cargo area for the 4Runner, I'd buy one instantly. It's quality stuff.

I liked your design but did some improvments that would help me. i ended up making it out of 1/2 birch ply from home depot and the drawer botoms were out of 5mm backing material to try to keep weight down. MDF is heavy and soaks up moisture exponentially unless sealed. i only ever use it for sub enclosures.

I also used soft close drawer sliders from lowes that are rated to 75lbs worked out real smooth and keeps the drawers closed as well without more locks.

For security i removed the cargo deck and used some L brackets to bolt them where the tie down points were, and hooked tie bolts or whatever off the back sides to the rear tie down hooks in the cargo compartment. after reading the toyota 120 topics about what if in a roll over i decided to make sure everything was secure. reasoning in a rollover all that stuff can become a projectile and its not all pillows and blankets.

My sub box then bolts to the top of it right behind the rear seats.

Ill get some pics when i can. I think i may end up building another one though with a sealed sub box at taking up the back of the box with a smaller drawer system all leveled out. kinda hidden but ill give this one a go first for a while.

I'm not much of a handyman so took the easy way out. I got two 24 gallon Rubbermaid Action Packers from Lowes ($30 each) that fit perfectly side by side, and keep them in place using a ratcheting nylon web tie down strap I hook into the existing tie downs in the cargo area. This seems to work great and when I don't need what's in the containers I just take them out and have the full space in the back free again.
