Carhart seat covers

Smell from what? I haven't had any odor troubles with mine (going on 3 years with them), but I'm not sure if they absorb odors any more/less than any other fabric that covers are made from. I do a lot of mountain biking, hiking and trail running, but I always change out of my sweaty clothes before getting back in the Runner.

They cannot be machine washed. This is from a FAQ on the Wet Okole website:

The more you wash, the longer they last. Washing your Wet Okole Hawaii seat covers will ultimately extend the life of your seat covers. Wet suit shampoo was specifically designed for cleaning and conditioning neoprene products. I bet you could put them in the dishwasher with no detergent and no heated dry, then hand wash them after that (or before).

Those Carhart covers look like the old Jeep seats...coarse material that is basically bulletproof, and won't burn dat ass on a hot summer day.

Holy hell man, I would never pay that much for seat covers, just get them re-done an a car trim shop. Jeez.

I thought the same initially.
But then these are not covers. They're complete new leather skins and I guess the expense because it's full leather. Front & back.

My LTD. oem seats are leather uppers only with vinyl sides and backs.

So in looking at all options, actual covers made of whatever from neoprene to nylon to vinyl are $150 to $300. S
So $700 for full leather skin rather than cover isn't so bad when you think about it.
Funny how many of us will spend hundreds if not thousands on various mods but cheap out where we really sit our asses all the time.
Just sayin.

I haven't seen the Carhart covers in any 4runners yet, but I was working on a Tundra the other day that had them and they were awesome. The black interior helped make them look better though, so I look forward to some 4runner pics.

Not to venture off topic but I shopped ebay for 2 years to come across a pair of clean leather seats out of a wrecked runner. They go from $500-$900 shipped. Mine were $650 and in 8.5 out of 10 condition. I've sat in my 4Runner for 280k, only went through I set. I thought of Catskinz but $1500 plus labor for ALL new seat covers was a tad pricey, I looked in Master Craft Baja Rs seats mounted with Tacoma mounts. I looked at custom upholstery and on and on.

Understood, but I don't really see that as a valid comparison. With the shoes, you sweat a lot into a tightly confined space. Unless you get into your truck with a soaking wet ass after your workout, they wouldn't get that much sweat on them.

If you go to that site and go through the steps to choose what you want, it won't even let you add them to your cart without also adding at least the drivers cushion which is an additional $175. I put in my zip code, and it calculates shipping as a flat rate percentage of the price, which would bring the total for me to $928 for the front to my door. Also, there's a whole lot more work involved to install the leather. I literally had the Wet Okole covers on in 30 minutes.
I understand your point on the mods, but we're talking over 4 times the price for the leather. The leather looks very nice, and I can understand someone wanting it, but you're gonna have to pay a pretty penny to get it.

I'm guessing you never surfed or owned a pair of wetsuits. Wet Okole is made from the same material. The best way to take care of this type of material is wash with water and air dry. Just because you work out a lot and you smell like ass has no relation to the product material.

Wet Okole has made a name for themselves not only in Hawaii, but world wide. My baby brother works at the Hawaii location. I've been using their covers since the 90s and they make such a good product, that my family and I are repeat customers. Hope the OP has luck on choosing the best product for him/her! ALOHA

There's another seat cover that seems nice. Marathon seat covers are made of cordura nylon like the seats in fire trucks. They have several camo colors and solid colors. I think silver dust would look nice in my 3rd gen. They have them for 1st gens but I think only the front seats.

If you look at the Carhart video it looks like they are made to quickly strip off which seems sketchy. They don't make them for 1st gens either.

I have Wet Okoles in the front of my 1st gen 89 4Runner. I got them used for $80. They were in a 2007 Tacoma that got traded. They fit great but the headrest covers are a little big. My kids surf from April to November so we have 9,000 wet suits floating around. I wash them in the machine, gentle cycle with liquid detergent and air dry. I treat the Wet Okoles the same and they seem just fine. IMO they are a kind of sweaty seat cover though.

(by no mean HI quality waves) Go run a few miles in your wetsuit then just hangout in it for a while, then do this about 5-6 days a week without washing it and see if it doesn't stink. I'm not doubting the quality of the Neoprene, but that material absorbs moisture...of all kinds. How long do those covers typically last?

You're comparing something you wear/workout in for hours at a time to something you sit on for a short period afterward. Trust me, I sweat big time in the humidity we have in the south, but I always plan ahead and take a change of clothes - whether I have seat covers on or not - and throw my workout gear in the back where I have a Husky Liner. Do you just crawl in the seat with your wet, sweaty workout clothes on without changing or at least putting a towel down?
I think that just about any material will stink if you expose it to enough sweat, you just have to take a couple simple steps to avoid transferring it to whatever you're sitting on.

Yes it does, but being born and raised in Hawaii we are used to it and not bothered by it. Now that I live in Washington state, my whole family can tell the difference. Local braddas don't wear shirts when driving during the day in Hawaii. Its a local thing

I bet ones for a third gen would fit just fine. The back seats are the same format (split 50/50). Order them. Return if they don't fit. Report back. I like the material too.

Gaah! I just looked up my vehicles. They don't have them for 4th gen 4Runners. They have front seat only for 3rd gen. They have none for first gen. I bet the 3rd gen fronts would fit 1st gen buckets just fine. If you try out several vehicles it looks like it's a general universal fit. I like the gravel color too.
