Carista Computer app options

I posted this in a thread. Thought I would post independently in case someone is searching in the future. Carista app options on a 2018 4Runner. I have also changed the options on a 2017 4runner. Both 4runners were Offroad Premiums, No Sunroof. Both computers were the same. I did change a 2014 Camry and 2016 Rav4. Their computer options were different.

This is interesting! I'm new, just made my profile. I was wondering if there is anyway to disable the radio/gps safety feature? I'd like to type in a gps destination while driving/ search xm stations and not get (your vehicle must come to a stop, bla bla bla) Howdy from Tx!!

I read elsewhere on the forum for a hardware fix to your solution. I don't recall seeing a software fix. Some guys splice in a switch.

These are only available with the paid version of Carista, right?

Correct. I only purchased the one week license. Also requires an obd2 dongle. I use an obd2 dongle as an rpm gauge on my Dodge diesel.

If you have an IPhone, be sure it's compatible from end to end. IPhone has different rules for Bluetooth connection.

Carista Problem

Has anybody tried the Carista app and their dongle on a 2018 Off Road Premium?
I did for a few changes and it works OK for turning off the ECO bar on the dash. But when I set the options to turn off the driver and passenger seatbelt dings, nothing happens. They still ding when seatbelts are not buckled and ignition is turned on. I’ve tried several iterations of enable and disable and there is no change.

I’m in contact with the Carista developers and and they are “investigating” it, but it’s been a week and no resolution yet.

Has anybody else had experience with this feature?
Thanks.

I have a 2018 ORP and Carista works for me. When you toggle the setting, are you saving it first, or navigatinf back to the settings menu?

I do SAVE the setting after selecting it. The other options I’ve changed have taken hold and worked OK. Like puddle light on-time duration, locking doors when shifting into D, and turning Off the ECO bar. But the seat belt ding disable does not work. I’ve tried all combinations of driver/passenger/On/Off and nothing changes. I get 5 dings when the ignition key is turned On if the driver seat belt is unbuckled.

Were you successful in disabling the seatbelt dings?

This is my Carista screen after I make and save the changes. ECO change works OK but not seatbelt one.

You might want to rethink having "lock doors automatically if unlocked and no door opened after 60 seconds" It's a good way to get locked out if (for example) if you unlock and start the vehicle and then get out to clean snow off your windows. Happened to a friend of mine. She had to wait like 3 hours for someone from the rental co to come unlock her car.

I have a 2018 ORP also, and it worked for me.

How do you get in the vehicle after unlocking it without opening a door? It only relocks the doors if no door is opened within 60 seconds of hitting the unlock button on the remote. Very useful if the button is accidentally pressed in your pocket (or your wife's purse). If you open a door, it will not relock.

I doesn't work that way on a t4r with a remote. If you unlock your door with your remote and then don't open the door within 60 seconds the doors will lock again. Once you unlock doors and then open a door (before 60 seconds) the lock feature is disabled. Worked this way on my 2004, 2015 and now my 2017 also on my daughters Highlander.

You also can't lock the doors with the motor running and a door open it will immediately unlock - so you don't lock the keys in the car.

I disabled the seat belt ding in a 2017 and 2018 Offroad Premium. Both worked the first time.

What obd2 dongle are you using? Phone? Can you borrow a friends obd2 dongle?

I’m using Carista’s OBD2 dongle and the iPhone Carista app.

But now that I think about it, are there two seatbelt ding functions that are independent?
One case is when you start the truck with your seatbelt unbuckled, and you get 5 dings. Then it goes silent.
The other case is when you put it into gear and drive off, and some time later get a reminder ding that seatbelts are unbuckled. I presume this is either speed, or time, or distance driven related. I also presume the reminder ding repeats after some interval if you remain unbuckled.

I always buckle my seatbelt eventually when driving, just not always at startup or while backup my out of a parking spot. So I’ve never gotten the drive-away dings (second case).

But I always get the 5 dings at startup (first case), even though the Carista app reports the rings are disabled. These are the dings that bug me and I hoped to get rid of. I’ve never tested it, but maybe Carista only disables the drive-away dings but not startup dings.

Can you confirm this on your rig?
Thanks.

Tested this morning. No seat belt, start vehicle I get a few dings. Seat belt on, then start vehicle, no dings. My work vehicle is same way.

With vehicle running, I can unlock the seat belt, get a warning light on dash, no audiible minder.

I just tested mine and got the same results.
So my Carista dongle/app works OK. But Carista just does not disable the 5 startup dings.

There is a Yes/No to the "Re-lock doors automatically if you unlock but don't open a door." If you want the auto lock off then "No." I turned off all auto locking features on my '16 Trail.

To confirm, the seat belt chime off is only after the 5 bell warning at initial start up. If you or the passenger removes their belt while driving there will only be a warning light on the dash, no chime.

Was the rental car a 4Runner?
Probably not.
My 4Runner does not work that way.
The "lock doors automatically if unlocked and no door opened after 60 seconds"
feature only works when the vehicle is off, the alarm is armed with the key fob remote (which also locks the doors), you press the Unlock button on the remote and do not open a door. Then after 60 seconds the doors lock and alarm is re-armed.
I kind of like the feature. It comes in handy if you accidentally press the unlock key while stuffing your keys in your pocket while walking away from your truck.

Wish I saw this post, I bought the Carista to specifically unlock all the doors on one press of the unlock button (on remote), but it is not an option in the app :(

18 Pro, does anyone have another option to unlock all doors on one remote press?

carista is farily reliable, came across it in audi forums a few years ago but went a different route. Can anyone confirm if there is an option to roll down windows with key fob?
