You can turn VSC and Trac off just by holding down the trac button anyway. Why would you want to turn off your ABS?

yeah you can, but it also comes back on at 30 mph. its just a throw back to old school driving. like when it was fun

Traction Control (TC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) can be disabled by holding down the Trac Button for 10 seconds while at a complete stop. On my 4Runner it does not come back on until you press the button again or restart the vehicle.
If you just hit the button while the vehicle is moving, then you only disable traction control, and it will come back on.

You’re kinda losing me here. I can see having a high performance sports car and taking it to a track, shutting off the electronic nannies and having some fun on a dedicated track. With a vehicle like a 4runner, on public roads, I’m not sure what you’re trying to accomplish. You’re certainly not going to be able to drift around a turn with a 4runner. And you’re not gonna be able to do a burnout smoke show with a 4runner. What you’re doing is a recipe for a “fun” rollover with your top heavy vehicle. And how were cars more fun before ABS? Unless longer, uncontrolled panic stops and crashing into shit is your idea of fun. Turning off the nannies off road is a different story but I don’t see it as a smart move on the road in a vehicle like this.

If the soccer mom station wagon that the 4runner is had a 5speed and a clutch I would argue with you.

If you actually KNOW how to drive you should be able to safely drive your vehicle on public streets without any of the nanny stuff.
My same-aged friend bought an 80ish Toyota pickup a few years ago and said “it feels like you’re driving a REAL vehicle” - if you don’t know that feeling, you’re a Millennial.

You can get a free one week subscription to the Carista app, available on i-Tunes. Mod your fob and then decline the yearly subscription. I did this with no problems, many good changes can be made.
THANK YOU!!! someone gets it!! before all of this ABS crap and VSC crap, driving was fun! you could control spins, don't matter what kind of car either. driving in dirt was a real lot of fun.
I get people need ABS and traction control to feel safe, but its so much more fun without it. I remember people doing mods to their trucks out here to turn this very same thing off. here I thought people would be glad to have an easy way to turn it off.
you never drove anything without it. and who ever said public roads? remember there was a time when 4runners didn't have all of this stuff.
unless you ever drove like this, you would not get it. and I would not suggest trying it now if you need all that stuff to drive

Bet ya $10 I can drift mine on pavement, with all nannies left on still. Done it.
That said, we used to rely on aptitude, training, and experience for safety. Not nannies. Many of us don’t need or want a computer messing with the handling of their vehicle. I am better off unhindered for the most part. And I am 40, so I only started driving 23 years ago legally anyway. All my time learning was with ABS being the only potential nanny around and many vehicles still did not have that.
These things have their place so I leave them on most of the time, but there are plenty of times you want them gone too.
On my 13, even with it completely disabled, when really pushing the car in turns stability control still intervenes. I’ve confirmed this on more than one occasion....
